New from Lippert

According to RVtravel.com Lippert will be introducing new locks for RV's next year that will allow the use of one key for all your locks. They also will not be keyed the same as other rigs so everyone in the park won't have your basement key. About time in my opinion.

It's about time. I changed out all our CH751 locks for barrel key locks the 1st year we had the Montana. All keyed alike.

Looking forward to the change. We are glad to have the newer slam latches at least on two compartments that carry the more expensive items.

A thief won't be stopped regardless what kind of lock you have. If they don't have a key they will just force their way in and damage your door or rig while doing so. A waste of time and money to change them.......but it is YOUR time and money after all.

It's more about convincing potential thieves that 10 other trailers around yours are easier pickings than yours will be, than it is about making your trailer "impenetrable".

It's also about only having to carry one key, instead of three like in our case.

Having one key is about the only advantage. The barrel locks are so weak they can be opened as quick with a screwdriver as s key. My basement was broken into several years ago. Someone simply slipped a screwdriver or similar under the edge of the door, pried, and bent the tabs on the barrel locks. Barely even a noticeable mark on the door. I just pressed on the tab with my thumb and it bent back in place.

I agree with making the thiefs work a little bit harder. As for locks you get what you pay for just like everything else. I also thought that they could put a bit better cover over the auto leveler. :-)
