lockable fuel door for ford?
Does anyone have a lockable fuel door on their truck? I haven't done any web searches yet to see if this is offered by anyone. I really want to keep someone from dumping something in my tank. John

Amazon carries the locking cap. I have seen locking doors on the newer fords, believe Billet makes. I would check with a truck accessory shop.

Locking Gas cap here too - another key to carry. The ONLY drawback is that I MUST put the removed filler cap on my tool box at the front of the bed above the filler since the aftermarket cap did not come with the cord that allows it to dangle and I have not been adventurous enough to try and remove the thing from the factory cap and reinstall it on the new one. I believe I still have the factory cap and it has that dangly thing and one of these days, I'll have to give it a shot.

Serious fuel thieves do not bother with siphoning fuel out of your truck's filler pipe, they punch a hole in the fuel tank (most tanks are plastic these days) and drain it. They are harder to be observed because they can approach from any direction, not just from the filler side, and are underneath your truck where most folks would not casually see them, instead of standing next to your rig sucking on a hose with a gas can at their side.
A locking gas cap will only stop the amateurs and they will move on to the next rig, which is about as much as you can hope for.
Having one more key, and having to mess with it on every fuel stop, is just a PITA that I don't want to deal with. A locking fuel door is asking for body and paint damage if they pry it open.
I remember back in the 70's, they had a spring contraption that you screwed down into the filler pipe, which prevented anyone (including you) from sticking a hose down into the fuel. It worked pretty well.
But, you can only do so much to protect yourself. If someone wants your fuel bad enough, have the time, opportunity, and isolation from being seen, you are going to have an empty fuel tank, no matter what steps you take. If you are lucky, you won't have to patch a hole in the fuel tank.

You can get a barking dog alarm that will sense movement around your truck. You can adjust for the time it barks. All kind on the internet.

Thanks for the inputs. Barking dog alarm sounds like a great way to know someone is where they shouldn't be. Invisible transporter set to transport someone to Iraq would be great...but I don't think I will be alive when they have those. John

jcurtis... something to consider regarding the barking dog is that many loud alarms are ignored by the public since "mistakes" occur all the time. I hope you can find an alarm where it has a fob or indication that notifies you on something you are carrying when someone is tampering. I can just imagine you park your vehicle then you are not within earshot and someone is messing with your fuel. A remote notification would be nice.
I didn't think about some of the disadvantages with filler caps, but sometimes you just gotta take your chances with what you've got. For me it's only the locking cap. Keep us posted on what solution you end up with.
