caulk removal

Anyone know of a cleanser that will remove caulking ?
I'm talking about the film of caulk that runs along the seams of compartment doors, windows, and weatherproofing.
This overrun attracts dirt and because of its sticky nature, tuns gray to black and makes a good wash job look incomplete.
Any help will be greatly apprieciated.

This Spring I detailed my Montana for (I think) the fourth time. I too was tired of the ugly "over caulk". I got a whole bunch off this last time by cutting around the trim with a "semi-sharp" pocket knife. Once cut, the over caulk just pulled off. It was amazing!

I wouldn't want to do anything to dissolve the caulk. If water gets through the trim. I'd be afraid that delamination would shortly follow.

If you take a plastic handled spatula and flatten the end out with a file or grinder,leaving it a little round on the end this will make the job a lot easier. We use to have a nice tool like this for putting the gimp(molding vinyl)in and they worked good too. Just make sure the seal is still intact. If not,reseal it with a fine bead of silicone and before it skins over use your thumb to clean the excess off. I like polyseam seal better, easier to work with.

I used a very fine blade to cut most of mine off. Sure looks better.

Be careful and have patience doing it.

One of our kids gave me an electric pressure washer this summer. It's
not the highest powered unit (only 1500 psi) I used it to wash vehicles including the Montana. I takes off a lot of dirt, and some but not all bugs and streaks. The brush is still a necessary tool.

But I found out by accident that it will remove the rubber or silicone calk around the basement door frames etc. So I backed off since I wasn't trying to remove that stuff at that time. I suggest that you try one of those. It may be a good tool for the job you mention or I may have just found a few weak spots in the caulk on our unit.

Let me know if this is the miracle tool for that job.

I had the same problem. I got a product at the hardware store called goof-off. It worked great. Just wet a rag with it and wipe around the marker lights and seams and bingo cleas as a whistle. good luck
