Up date 2014 F450 Superduty!
Bought new (first off line) 2014 Ford F450 ! This truck is amazing ! 12,800 miles since deliver in April 2013! Getting 9.6 mpg towing, and the power is incredible ! CA to upstate NY and back! Lots of power and operated flawless ! Exhaust break a God send! Excellent product and great performance ! Used one $11.00 box of DEF ( diesel additive) on entire trip!

Congrats on the new truck. Cannot beat that 6.7 and the six speed tranny. I am getting 11-12MPG level terrain with my 350, but guess the 450 is a bit heavier. Were you refering to DEF (Diesel Emission Fluid) or Diesel Additive (CTAN). Envious of that F450!

1retired, I think the difference in MPG's is because the 450 comes with a 4.30 rear and the 350 has a 373 rear! At least that is what my 2012 ford truck brochure states!

Some 350s come with a 4.10 rear end, which would still get better mpgs than the 4.30. The F-450 is maxxed out on everything. Isn't the CGVWR over 26,000lbs? That's awesome!

My 2007 F350 (6.0L) averages 11.2 mpg with 4:10 rear-end gears towing our rig.

Another thing in my brochure that I have posted before is the brakes are larger on the 450 compared to the 350, almost an inch on the front and almost 2 inches in diameter on the rear axle! But that is another subject for you to consider!

Mike, give that thing a bit to get broke in. I was hating my 2011 Chevy because the mileage was so bad, but the more miles we put on it the better it got. I hated trading it in because now I have to wait to get this new one broke in. And yes the DEF is not as bad as I thought it would be either. The nice thing with it is you don't have that diesel smell. (and yes I know some of you like it.)

Warning.. Hijack.. Do you use the DEF from the git go.. or should you wait for a few thousand miles? I don't know if it might hinder break in or not.

Congratulations, I like the shorter turning radius of the F450. The DEF is used from day-one, it goes in a separate tank and the truck automatically puts it into the exhaust system on demand according to amount of spent fuel/exhaust being produced. I have paid from $11 to $16 for it (I think 2.5 gallons) depending where purchasing the Blue DEF, and have ranged from 3300 to 6800 miles between adding DEF. My mom loved the smell of diesel and after selling the farm and moving to town she would mop some diesel on the back wood deck as the smell reminded her of younger days.

You have no choice with DEF usage. The Ford will shut down if the DEF tank is empty.

You're close KOLCB, the seats are heated (and cooled) but the tailgate has steps for us old timers!

You are probably right about the 4.10 on some 350's but I was only referring to the brochure and forgot to put in there that it was DW 350's and of course the 450 is a DW too! I think that depending on whether you have a gas or diesel and the length of box, extended cab, reg cab or crew cab also makes a difference in what option the factory gives you! Thanks Art!
