slide fit

We just picked up our new 3400RL today at Collier RV in Rockford Illinois. First let me say that we have never been more impressed by the service we received from all involved with our purchase. With that said we thought we did a fairly good PDI but missed one important thing.

With the slides closed the rear of the center slide has quite a large gap where the fender skirts meets, right where the Moryde emblem is. The seal seems to be a tight fit above the gap but the gap itself is over an inch wide. I sent pictures to the service department but they closed at 5:00. So I guess we will try tomorrow on Friday.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

First, Welcome to the forum.

Second, some good natured kidding, Tomorrow is Friday, so give the dealer a call in the morning and have them look at the pictures.

Best of luck.

Welcome to the Forum. We have had nothing but exellent service from Colliers. Our service contact is Lisa who has bent over backward for us. We bought our 2950 there in 2005 and have had it in a couple of times for warranty work. I'm sure they will take care of everything.

Welcome to the Forum Dick!

I had exactly the same problem after delivery. Be careful, the slide flange can actually slip inside the fender edge as you travel (normal road flex) and then when you try to open it, it breaks the fender.

I fixed mine myself - (sorry, no pics). I just removed both pieces, filled the holes in the tin with silicone, then measured and drilled new holes. They are now level and fit perfectly.

On the fender attached to the slide, I also drilled a hole at the bottom of the fender and secured it to the metal strap with a small screw and castle nut. It would flap in the wind going down the road and work the upper screws out. (on edit - I see yours is already riveted or screwed at the base).

Thanks. I'm sure they will. One of the points that helped seal the deal was that we could have our service work done at the Colliers in Russell which is only 4-5 miles from us where Rockford is about 140 miles round trip. The only exception is that major warranty work needs to be done in Rockford.

I noticed something similar on ours but thought it was normal because of the slide. Let us know what the dealer says.

Our brand new 08 Big Sky is exactly the same. The pieces are level with each other but just don't line up because of different levels in the side. I don't see a fix other than taking the right piece off and shimming it.. Dave and Betsy

Welcome aboard! We also have some overlap but not quite as bad as yours. It looks like the fender skirts could be unscrewed and move a bit to alleviate the problem. Would that take care of it?

Moving or triming seems to be the fix. I'll wait to hear what the dealer says tomorrow but will forward your responses this evening. Thanks to everyone for your assistance.

My 3400RL is the same way. Dealer service said he could take it off and shave it, but he could not guarantee anything. I told him to leave it alone for the time being. I'm interested in what you find out also.

Collier RV service in Rockford just called back and are making an appointment at Collier Sky Harbor RV for the "fix". The service writer agreed that the repair is probably just a matter of removing and repositioning the fender skirt.

As we are not going any where until Spring break and the fact that another major snow storm is on the way, I'll probably wait before hauling it to the dealer. Besides, it's sunny, but cold today and maybe I can install some of the goodies I bought. And, God forbid, maybe I'll find some more "repairs".

My son and Louise said the same thing, "let the dealer do it" I guess it's too early in the Montana's life for me to start messing with it.

WE told by our set up guy that this was normal. We have had the trailer in for a leak in that area. Traveling down the road in the rain caused some water to enter the trailer a that corner. They adjusted the seal but the gap is still there.

The service advisor at Collier RV seemed to think it was enough of a problem that he wanted me to make an appointment to have it fixed. I guess I wouldn't put much stock in a service department that claimed it was "normal".

Our 3600RE was the same way, and the slide leaked in that corner - water if the road was wet, gravel if the road was dry. Dealer took care of it - trimmed the area so the two halves fit together and adjusted the slide so it fit better - no more leaks.

Our 3400rl is the same way and with the slide out it does not seal very well as there is a big breeze tht come in that side, and a gale force wind on the front left side of our refrig, not that the slide has anything to do with it.

Thanks. More food for thought. We will pay close attention to those problems. The good thing is that our unit is parked in the driveway and we are subject to a real vortex depending on which direction the wind is coming from.
