GPS for Christmas
Remember when I said a couple of weeks ago that my wife was complaining that she got lost a couple of time so I bought "her" a Garmin 650. Well, she bought me one also. One of my daughters knew what I bought and the research so when her mother was buying one for me she made sure it was the same unit. At a different daughters house for Christmas...she made sure we opened them at the same time. What a hoot! It worked great on the way back from the SF Bay area. I took one back today, the one I bought her but she got the refund...go figure.

That is a great story Mike!
I really enjoy my little 360 and take it everywhere with me. Its great for vacation and business. I also use it for the audible book feature and listen with little retractable headphones. I did find out the other day that it cannot lock on to the satellites inside an airplane. To bad, as I thought it would be fun to track a route going 600 mph instead of 60 mph  .

As a new GPS owner, I can relate, what I am having trouble relating to is the vision of Brad with his Garmin suction cupped to the airplane window with a crowd of fellow passengers gathered around!!!!! Ha Ha!!!

I was trying to use one several years ago on an airplane and was told by the stewardess that it was a no-no and to put it away or it would be confiscated. I suppose it could interfere with the aircrafts signals someway. Maybe things have changed - I hate to think such a common device (nowdays) could present a problem.

In GPS mode, that is correct. GPS must transmit to locate and transmission is not allowed on aircraft.
But you can listen to music or audio books if your unit is so equipped.
That is a lifesaver for me...or even a book works too if i can concentrate long enough to get into it.

We bought a c550 garmin last winter and love it. We only had a few times it didn't like an address but we worked around it.

My Garmin 2720 came with a remote. Now why on earth would I need a remote for the gps???

Our GPS has also been the best little phone book
No kidding, in fact today while I was shopping in another city. I could not find the item I needed at one store, so I got in my pick up, punched in another stores name, got the phone number and called them up....they had the item so I put the vehicle in gear and did more shopping.....Love that GPS!

As to use in an airplane, some airlines allow usage (United) and some don't (American). The GPS is a receiver only, not a transmitter. The Global Positioning System is a "military" system and they don't want the world communicating with those satellites. It is only recent years they have backed off of the degradation of signal to give today's accuracy.
I just got the new Nuvi 680 and am really enjoying the traffic feature as well as the great Bluetooth capability. My Toyota has bluetooth, but doesn't have the phonebook installed. The Nuvi recognizes my phonebook right away. It's awesome.
