Judy, thank you so much. You just made my day. (week?) Probably Robbie's too. You and Ozz have let us know that this forum is a great new way for Carol and I to learn so much. Enjoy the day - Jim

I had the rod come off at the valve end of the Black Water tank. Did some fishing and was lucky enough to get it caught enough to drain the tank. Opened the belly along the frame side at the handles and was able to pull it down enough to get my arms in to the valve. The rod has a slip joint with a very small cotter key that holds it together. Also the rod drags on the frame as the hole and rod do not align exactly. I put a lock nut on the rod at the valve end to keep it from backing out again. Slightly enlarged the frame hole so the rod slips freely and replaced the worn cotter key. Wasn't as concerned with the handle end since I can access it from the outside. Just made sure it was tight by holding the rod securely near the handle and hand tightening the handle.

Everything is working as designed with just those few modifications.

Hang on just one minute here. I must not be reading something right here. After I read some of what is going on, I marched myself out to Monty and checked by Galley Handle, Black Handle and Gray Tank handle. The "T" handle on the rods were tight - OK but I turned them and turned them (clock-wise) and they just kept spinning around. If they are screwed into the valve why aren't they tightening up?

Our grey tank handle is bent and the hole through the frame does not line up with the hole in the flooring by a bunch..That is no doubt why it is bent..someone, not us, had to push down on it hard to get it to open..another one of those little things and another not so skilled skilled craftsman.

UPDATE..When we pulled the black carpet stuff aside we noted that a attempt to enlarge the hole had been made at the factory because the carpet covered the egg shaped hole. Apparently the craftsman did not have the time, proper tools or skills to do the repair properly..
We however did..it took all of 15 min's .Just one of those little things we have come to expect on a MSVRP 58K RV////

Phill, it's a pull valve. Glen speculates that it is a ball at the far end of the rod.

Actually the valve is just the old common gate valve we normally see on RV septic systems. At least on my 2001 it is. The rod is not one piece from the valve to the handle, it is two pieces with a slip joint in the middle. That's why it is so hard to reconnect the valve end and why the handle spins so free.

So how do you get it tight if it just keeps spining?

RonS read back a couple replies. Some folks have had the handle end come loose from the rod and others have had the rod come loose at the valve (can't see without dropping the belly) end. It is not a one piece rod between the handle and the valve.
