Help Yourself?

Just now, I was sitting out under our awning, taking it easy, when all of a sudden a Class C whizzed by me (ignoring the Park Host sign, but what else is new?). I knew the driver hadn't been to the main office, which I can see from my site, so I jumped on the cart to follow him and see where he was going. He was already backing into a waterfront site when I reached him. I asked if he had reservations, and he said no, but said he saw several waterfront sites empty and had picked the one he wanted. We are totally sold out of our waterfront and "preferred" sites and have no room for walk-ins over this holiday weekend; we're sold out all next week, too, because a Casita* rally group will be arriving on Monday for a week's stay. I explained the situation to the man, who wasn't too happy at being told that we basically had nothing open until December 2nd and that he'd have to leave the spot he was trying to claim. Had I not been sitting outide, he'd have been hooked up and probably already on the fishing pier before we discovered we were short one site. We have a few empty spots at the moment, but they are reserved and paid for, and the occupants will be in sometime this afternoon or evening.

After 6 months of similar instances, I still wonder what kind of RVer just drives into a park and sets up in a spot without reservations or without checking in with the park host or office staff first. If we had a gate, the problem would be solved, maybe. But the design of the park doesn't provide an area for a gate, so I will continue to play chase in my little LCRA cart!

*I was told that we really don't have a "Casita" rally coming in. We have a "fiberglass" rally group arriving, which is what the group prefers to be called, because some of their RVs are other brands, even though they look like Casitas. Still, on our park calendar, the Casitas are coming, the Casitas are coming . . .

Carolyn,

I do not think it is a problem with just RVers. I believe it is the general attitude of our society today of the "I will take what I want when I want because that is what is good for ME!" generation.

You see it everywhere....We (younger generation)have become a society of takers! Very similar to trying to tell a parent today that their sweet angels of mercy have done something wrong....Talk about Whoa!

Thankfully this is not the case of all RVers, just the ones that don't like to subscribe to any rules or regs.

Good Luck with those "Takers"!

Les

A few years back we had reservations for a late arrival and had our packet left out on the late arrival board. Got to our site only to find that some else already set up. The board also clearly defined which sites were available for late arrivals without reservations. We were informed by the new tenants of our site that they did not stop at all and just picked an empty site. No apology or offer to move, only that they were sure we could find something! Thankfully 95% of us respect the campgrounds rules!

Over the years we have been "camping", I have observed that motorhome owners are more selfish than the rest of us- JMHO- Don

We had to ask a camper to move his already-set-up rig two days ago. He helped himself to a prime spot, which was already reserved, and then was very unhappy when he was told he couldn't stay there. He'd come in around midnight, escaping the office and us, and rather than go to the clearly marked "general camping" area, he went to the "preferred, reserved" area. He's really not happy now, because the park is sold out again beginning Sunday (a Casita/"fiberglass" group is coming in for a rally), and he has to leave the park by noon tomorrow because all 70 spots have been reserved for that group and for the campers who went through the advance reservation system.

Not everyone is thoughtless and inconsiderate. The majority of people coming through here are wonderful, well-mannered, considerate campers who help make up for the ones who aren't so wonderful.
