My 3402RL is a 2012 model, has the letter 'C' as the 10th digit, and it was manufactured 9/20/2011. All this info is on the weight label, which is printed after the unit is made and has been weighed in the factory, this per the rep who gave us the tour of the factory at the recent fall rally in Goshen. They build these rigs in groups, all the same model until they complete what has been ordered and what they may think is needed for stock, then they switch to a different model.

the 10th digit in the VIN Number indicates the year model...
|
I am not sure how a "letter" indicates the year model. In my case the 10th letter is a "C" and it is a 2012. In the case of JIB27537 his is the letter "E". Now one would think if they were going to do it in this manner they would start with the letter "A", assigning a new number with each years build. Since 2012 was the first year that the 3402RL was produced this makes no sense at all.
I really don't think this 10th digit represents the "year model", however it may represent the year of manufacture unrelated to the model being produced, they have been known to do strange things in Goshen....

The letter C is the code for 2012, not the build year. So yours is correct.
10th digit--Year
RVS manufactured after 2000 show numerical designations. For example, 2001=1, 2002=2, etc. Those manufactured before 2001 show alpha designations; for example X=1999, and Y=2000. After 2009 the tenth character will revert back to alpha: 2010=A 2011=B 2012=C , So as you can see, his being "E" would be a 2014, which it is. If you wanted to use a number it would get mighty confusing every 10 years.

My certificate of origin does "NOT" have a build date, if you read the small print you will see that the date listed on the Certificate is the date and invoice number on which the unit was transferred to the dealer.
Since the date on the sticker on my 3402RL shows the same date one might assume that was the build date as well as the date of transfer. If these units come off the assembly line and are immediately transferred to the ordering dealer, then it might very well also be the build date, only Keystone knows that. I suspect the stickers are the last thing to go on the units, they must properly reflect the GAWR depending on whether it is shipping with G614's or Marathons.
Having never been to the Keystone factory I doubt new units off the assembly line sit on the lot in Goshen awaiting a dealer to order one, I suspect when they come off the assembly line they are destined to a particular dealer and the transfer is made on that date.

OK, My unit had the serial number assigned and was built 4/9/13. (Per the ID sticker showing the VIN and GVWR on the outside left front) The MSO is dated 5/8/13 which is the day before I bought it. The invoice to the dealer is dated 5/1/13 which is when they agreed to buy it when I bought it over the phone.
My unit was a "stock" unit that Keystone built and when built was un-sold. Keystone does build units for stock so if a Dealer needs a common floorplan they can ship it quickly. Maybe Hook can explain it better.
The dealer sent me a copy of the invoice so I could verify options as built. I have it as a PDF on my computer, have not yet figured out how to post it (a pdf) on the forum.

Jim I don't know how your unit built in early April 2013 and transferred to the dealer in May 2013 becomes a 2014 model. One would think that would certainly be before the next model year was being produced. Strange things from Keystone.
I guess when these strange things happen at the factory, anything is possible at the dealer and how they advertise them. Guess we will only be able to speculate on the confusion contained in the original post.
My sticker indicates a build date of 1/18/2012 - Model/Series MO3402RL12 - Transfer date and invoice date 1/18/2012. Purchased 2/3/2012, 10th digit is a "C", guess I truly have a 2012, and that is what it was advertised as.

I have no answer about these dates on the rvs, but we purchased our 358rlt13 on 8/2/12 and it is a 13 model. All my paper works says 2013. The only thing I do know is that it is a little different from the 2012s in the brochure. Don't have a Certificate of Origin to look at.

Here is the vin sticker. Note the MO3150RL14 on the sticker. I posted my MSO previously showing it was a 2014. 10th digit is a "E" which would be a "14"
A buyer needs to look at the sticker on the left front to see what year the trailer actually is and not rely on the dealer to tell them.

Thanks for this info, jlb27537. My 10th digit is a D so I'm assuming it is a 2013, although just had some repair work done and dealer listed it as a 2014. LOL. My bill of sale does say 2013 and since I bought it in 2012 don't think it's a 14.
