Name of "E" Tape

What is the name of the tape that will repair tanks? I know it starts with an E. Can you buy it at the hardware store?
Happy Trails................

It doesn't start with E, but do you mean "Permatex"? It's got a couple of E's in it.

Maybe you are thinking of the word Epoxy, which could be a lot of things.

Eternabond??

http://www.eternabond.com/products.asp?type=roof

On Edit: If you click on their homepage you will find a distributor tab at the bottom of the page where you can type in a zip code and find the closet outlet. Also check out their more info tabs for different applications.

Sue, Jolu is correct. Eternabond. Not cheap, but an excellent product.

Thank you Steve and Jolu.

Art - At almost 69 years of age, college educated, I'm pretty sure I know the difference between a word that begins with an E and one that has a lot of e's in it. Also I know what epoxy is. Steve and Jolu had the correct answer. Did you learn something?

Happy trails....................

Sue,

Did you mean tank repair? I see where eternabond fixes leaks, but I think they are mainly talking about roof repair. I'm not so sure if that means holding tanks. Steve? you know? That stuff is sure expensive.

I fixed a couple of punctures on my roof with that stuff; if it will do what you want, it is real "easy to work with"...something I know will make Ed happy.

You're right, it is expensive if you buy it from RV accessory stores or Camping World. If you get it here, it's a lot less expensive. I carry an extra roll with me all the time.

Eternabond A Seal the info from their link, is for tank repair.
Why don't you try it out and let us know how it works, if it works we can split the cost of a roll. Thats right I also have a small problem in one of my tanks.

Yup, Parrothead, I agree I learn something all the time, at least once a day, like Eternabond may be what you're thinking of but it just might not apply.

I have used Eternabond on my roof but it does not experience the type of pressure that a tank might have.

If you don't mind let me know how it worked.

I'm thinking I saw kits for the tanks that contained a piece of fiberglass fabric, and that other "E" word, Epoxy.

Never had the need for the Eternabond; hope I never do.

There are a number of Eternabond products beside the well known roof repair tape. Eternabond A-Seal is an aluminum backed tape designed to patch tanks, not roofs.

Mel: you ought to know Aqua Boy is well acquainted with leaks and consequences of pouring 50 gallons in a 38 gallon tank. But the price for a piece of A-Seal 4" x 5' is only $15.95 from the Eternabond site.

Seems inexpensive enough to try out. Is this a project for the end of next month?

I discovered Eternabond A-Seal last year and was anxious to try it as I had 2 cracks in my galley tank, I thought maybe they had a nice easy fix to this problem. That was a year ago and I just finished removing the leaking Eternabond and patching with epoxy. I still want to talk to them to see if there was something I could have done differently, but for right now I would not try it.

Charlie: it is disappointing to hear the A-Seal didn't work for you. I had high hopes that was the ticket to an easy fix. Of course I wouldn't think the tape would work if the crack was around a pipe connection or any other non-flat surface.

What epoxy did you use and did it cure the leak?

I bought a roll of the stuff 75 feet of it from the manufacture, how many feet would you like to have up to 5 feet only, for free you pay postage.

I figured Ed would just use duct tape after seeing your dually last year. Did he duct tape the bicycle up, too?

Carl,
I used a stick epoxy for holding tanks I got at AutoZone made by Cargo. I previously used it in a different spot 2 yrs ago and it is still holding.

I talked a nice man at Eternabond yesterday and he said they have a holding tank there with a large crack repaired with A-Seal that they have been using for 6 years. He said the best way to prepare the tank is to clean with lacquer thinner or acetone then lightly scuff with sandpaper, apply tape, roll down, apply a second, larger piece of tape, roll and let sit for 24 hrs. It goes without saying that the tank must be clean and dry. He also said if you clean with soap and water which I did the soap leaves a residue which will prevent the tape from sticking. He is also sending me a some tape to replace that which I ruined. He said this WILL fix holding tanks unless the leak is in a tricky spot such as near the outlet.
