Mice

I know this must have been covered somewhere but can anyone tell me where to plug holes on a 2008 3400RL and what the best thing to plug with is? Other pests as well?

Our previous camper became home to some very messy mice and I'd like to prevent them in the future.

I would get underneath the 5er, get a can of expanding foam and go to work filling up the small holes the larger ones tey and patch them.

Even after plugging what you think are all the holes, they still might come in. I know ther are a lot of ways to chase them out,we have found that Downy scented dryer sheets have been working for us 100% of the time.We have not had a mouse since starting to use them. Put them in every drawer, cabinet, outside and in. That should help keep them away and it smells nice when you open it up.We also use them in our two classic cars and they have stopped visiting them also.Hope this helps

I had a couple little critter move into the kithcen last week...both have found that the snap traps are not their friends.(actually so did the wondermutt)..I just bought a 4 pack of sonic mouse deterents..I think it cost me $29.00 they plug into the wall sockets and emit a hig h pitch frequency that only the mice can hear. Dog isnt bothered by them..I put two in the trailer and two in the house...we havent had any more visitors but I cannot say much about the long term.....I was told they cost about 1 Cent a day to operate...

I had mice in my unit twice, that I know about. I installed two of the electronic devices, one in living room and one in bathroom, and have not had a problem since, I do check. With the slides in I can see daylight in the corners of the table/sofa slide. Appears they leave room for the slide to move front to back. This might only be an inch or so but still an opening. I can't see the corners of the desk/kitchen slide so don't know if there are holes there.

See our signature below for our solution!!! Jamie!! The best soution we have found is to make sure there are no food-suffs left in the rig during storage. Every time I found mice in the past, it was related to candy remnants or something that DD's had left behind.

I think klandry"s problem,if I am reading his post correct is when it is in storage for the winter. With no electric hook up. So non-electric solutions would be his only choice. During the season,we have no problems in between use. Bingo's solution would be a great idea, but with my Can't Remember S___ memory, I would forget I put our cat in there!!!! My wife would not be happy

Our mechanic told us about the Downey dryer sheets, but said it had to be Downey brand not SOB.
Anyone try another brand?

We have used the bounce fabric sheets. You will find many other uses, especially get bugs off of windshields and the front cap. We store ours with bounce sheets stuck in the furnace vents and other places.

We've been using bounce sheets for probally the last 10 yrs in various rigs. Haven't had a problem at all. Did go one summer without while I was deployed and the DW didn't refresh the bounce sheets and she ended up without a small problem. Once removed, we put in new bounce and no more problems. I replace them every fall with a fresh box. Place them every where you can store one.

Thanks everyone for your helpful suggestions. I love this forum but my dealer is getting tired of me suggesting he check the wiring over the fireplace or fix the space for our ONAN generator with the reflective tape or some other thing.

Anyway, I did mean mice invasions while we are storing the camper for the winter on a gravel drive in our back yard. I don't see any sign of mice during the summer but when we open up the camper again in the spring, the little critters had moved in during the fall.

I did try the Downey sheets but maybe I didn't use enough of them. Our previous camper was probably a lot more pourous that our Montana as well. We will probably try the foam as well in all the small openings.

Thanks everyone.

Moth balls work well, buuut, who can stand the smell left behind in spring after they are removed. We now use camphor blocks from our local pharmacy, they are made in China and state that they are for protection against moths, silverfish, etc. The smell of these blocks up close reminds me of vicks vapour rub. You might also want to purchase a bunch of steel wool and plug the large round holes were the slide rams go thru into the frame underneath each of the three slides. Bedroom slide excluded. These holes are attractive to other creatures as well.

I've got my Monte parked and stored in the open down on the Platte River bottom land near a cabin and acreage. We use the fabric softener sheets inside scattered throughout the whole rig and we also put mothballs all around the rig on the ground. So far have not had or seen any of the little critters around. Keeping out fingers crossed. I would have thought if they were going to come into the rig they would have made it in already! Keep us informed on what comes up in the matter!

We are going to need some long extension cords then. All I know for the last ten years my campers and my stored cars have been mice free with dryer sheets. So, I can't bet against them.

We have the electric thingies and so far so good, but It think it's all just a matter of mousy roullete and once you have them you have them.

we made little "baggies" for the moth balls out of some old nylons and hung them by each landing gear and by the wheels--wherever we thought those little beasts would go to get into the trailer and we did not have any problems this year, of course it has been so cold in Nebraska maybe all of the mice froze.

Throw moth balls under on the ground under the trailer. I promise they will stay away. Take it from a farm boy !! I have not had a single mouse in years since I started doing this.

We, too, use Bounce sheets and have never had trouble with mice. When it is time to change the sheets, they can be used to clean the bugs off the nose of the Monty. Dampen them, rub lightly over the bugs and rinse off - presto, they're gone.
