Slide drop during tow

Two times now while towing my rear living area slides dropped/open about a inch at the bottom. Today it happened after about 2 1/2 hours of towing. I thought I felt something funny through the tow vehicle, looked back and I could now see the bottom of the slide outs had dropped and pulled away about 1 inch.

Has this happen to anyone before, and what could be the cause? After I stopped, went to the back, and closed the slides again to the stow position.

Could be a hydraulic ram going/gone bad leaking back via a check valve. Do a search here ... others have had this issue including me. Feel free to PM me if you have a question.

Could be as simple as the hydraulic valves not being completely closed.

I'm new to Rving so this might sound like a dumb question but you're suppose to close/turn off the hydraulic selector valves after you close your slides?

No, you don't close them off. You might also have a slightly loose fitting anywhere in the system. You don't say what year rig you have, but if it is still under warranty, it might be good to take it in.

Since we stay at truck stops a lot when traveling we frequently use the valves to close out the other slides than the bedroom and sometimes after that we have the slides working out problem. Work those valves as far as possible and maybe it will fix it.

I open all of the slide valves that were turned shut when I retract the one or two slides that were extended. That way, all of the slide rams are pressurized to the closed direction.

My slide creep experience:

I had the creeping slides for awhile, until one time I was closing all of the slides and noticed hydraulic fluid running down the street side landing gear leg that is right under the slide selector manifold. All of the hydraulic fitting on slide valve manifold were not very tight at all, and one was so loose that it blew the o-ring. I replaced the bad o-ring and tightened every fitting on the manifold. No more slide creep after that, ...none.

I have had 2 hydraulic cylinders and 2 pumps changed because of creeping slides. Get a good tech to check out your system. you may still have warranty through Lippert on the Hydraulics as I was told when mine was creeping that on ours it was 5yrs.

I have had creeping slides for about a year now...can find no leaks, etc....only the bedroom slide creeps...so after we close the slides ...we tap the switch out for a quick moment to balance the line pressure and magically no more problems with creep...fluid level is remaining the same so we assume we have no leak....except with a seal within the cyclinders itself.....works for me so far....
