Wood and stain

We have a new 3402RL. Would like to make a small coffee table. What wood and stain to use for a match?

Thanks

Dick

Don't know if keystone used hickory in your rig or what they called the finish. Perhaps the factory will share some wisdom with you on stain they used...but I doubt it. In our 2013 3800, it is hickory for the real wood parts and the is a brown tone with a very slight reddish hint to it in certain light. I made a pullout scanner drawer, which I tried to match the grain lines of the new wood face to the rest of the rear entertainment center. Then it was try several stains on small samples and spray finished so that I could see how close I was getting. And I learned that it took applying wood conditioner prior to staining so that the grain did not overly "color" the results of the stain being used...AND your table will be horizontal instead of all the vertical wood in the cabinets. This affects how the light reflects off the piece and your eye perceives the tones. Since you want to make a standalone piece, it won't be as important to exactly match the woodwork since different wood tones can compliment each other and work well in the unit. Get the grain patterns that you think will work well and go from there...probably red oak if your wood is anything like that used in my trailer. I think a table of hickory would be too wild of a grain pattern to look good. Hope this helps in some way. John

They do not offer the Hickory Pkg anymoreThe new wood is "Glazed Cherry" you should be able to find the right color stain at woodworking supply places or the internet,we like the new color but miss how Robust the Hickory Wood Pkg was and how easy finding the right color putty and stain etc...

All the cabinetry in these rigs is made by Middlebury Hardwoods, http://middleburyhardwoodproducts.com/ There is contact information on their site, so it might be worth a call or email to them to see of they sell the stain you are looking for. They may also have suggestions on commercially available stains that will match.

For touch up we find the minwax early American or natural cherry is close enough. Blends in well.
