Battery cut off switch
The dealer says I have a battery cut off switch and I know he explained why I might want to use it, but that day he explained so much that I cannot remember. When would I want to use this?

When stored and not being used, this will save you're battery from draining.

Also, if you need to work on any 12 volt item in your rig, it might be easier to use the cutoff switch than to disconnect a battery cable.

If you have 110 VAC hooked up make sure the converter is turned off also if you are doing any work on your 12 VDC system.

Steve, the cutout switch only removes the batteries from the 12V circuit. If you are connected to shore power, the converter is still supplying 12V to the circuit. To kill the 12V circuit completely, turn off the cutout switch and unplug or turn off the converter breaker. 12V can zap you as bad as 120V.

Steve there are alot of parasitic leaks in your trailer. The switch will save your batteries when stored, even for a short time.

I am most likely wrong, but when I was waiting on a new replacemrnt for my smoked converter the guy at the camper store told me that the Battery feeds the 24v system directly and I could run my 24v from a good battery charger. So I hooked my battery to a charger and had AC and refrig and every thing else working that requires 24v to operate. This is why I thought that the converter only feeds the battery and the battery feeds the trailer??

That's what I thought, too, that the 110v connection went to the converter, converter sends 12v to the battery and the battery out to the 12v appliances/lights. Therefore the cutoff switch would shut that down. But after reading all the replies, I must be wrong.
I've always heard that a weak or dead 12v battery will keep the refrigerator from working on propane, even when connected to shore power, because it needs 12v to fire the propane (electric ignition). If the converter will feed the 12v appliances directly, then a weak or dead battery wouldn't be a problem, would it?
It's pretty obvious I now am very confused. Help.

Turn off the shore power. Turn the battery disconnect switch so that the battery is not providing any power to the RV. Go inside and start trying to turn things on. Nothing should work.
Hook the shore power back up. Keep the battery disconnect in the disconnect position. go back inside and see what comes on. You may have to turn the breaker to the converter for a good representation. With the breaker off, only those things being supplied with 110 will come on. Make a note. Turn the breaker back on to the converter and repeat turning on the other items. If anything comes on that is different than the 120v, it is being powered by the converter. Make a note.
Turn the battery disconect back to normal.
Darn! I need to try this one day!

I am sorry that I said 24volts, I meant 12 volts. Your AC won't work unless you have 12 volts, also your TV attenna booster.
