Compressed Natural Gas

Does anyone have any experience with an add on kit that allows a truck to run on either diesel or compressed natural gas? I hear that you can switch from one fuel to the other at will.

Don't know a thing about it, but if it sounds too good to be true ...
If it does work, I hope the power loss isn't similar to propane. Neighbor had a tractor switched over to propane ... would hardly pull the hat off your head. Start up cost verses how long to break even would be a major issue to look at as would availibility to refuel.

How many refilling stations have you seen. Do see it used on local fleets where they never go too far from home.

There are a lot of fleet vehicles in urban areas operating on CNG. We've seen some CNG filling stations in the east. Having said that there still isn't enough of it around to make it the full time fuel. CNG is suppose to be cheaper than diesel. Can't say anything about performance of one vs. the other. I just don't know. There are after market kits to convert diesel or gasoline to CNG. I'm not sure that the ability to switch back and forth is a viable option. There is still a lot to learn before I would make the plunge. If this becomes a cost effective reality, the fuel savings could be substantial.
