New Floor in our 3400
We were sick and tired of the old dirty rug that smelled so we went looking a flooring a couple of weeks ago.
NO MORE RUG.
In our old house we had put down a cushioned back vinyl in the kitchen that looked like tile.
We wanted a similar thing but in wood.
We got a good grade Armstrong flooring for the 3400.
With all the rain in NH, It was had to a good weather day to get the old flooring out as we had to move allot of stuff outside.
Well we got the window this week, it finally stopped raining, we are over 14" above normal.
Well, you all would be surprised what happens under the vinyl and rug.
We had had a major water leak and the floor was soaking wet under the vinyl and also we had a leak under the area of the large slide from water coming in while traveling.
A good day to take out the rug and vinyl and dry the under flooring.
Well it will be three day tomorrow and we will get it back.
We (installer and myself) removing all the blasted staples, then putting down 11 sheets of 1/4" plywood down, precisely cut, glued and 5,000 staples.
Tomorrow we will put the Armstrong down.
The way I look at it, if you do not lay a good foundation, the rest is will look like crap.
Also bought a new toilet to install after the floor is done.
Will still have to redo the stairs.
So if you are looking at doing new flooring, it is a major undertaking.
To do it right plan on 1 to 1 1/2 day to tear it all out, the 1 1/2 days to lay the foundation, and a day to install.
Also to do it right you are looking at about $2500.
It is allot cheaper then a new coach.

Carlson,
Were you able to find the cause of the leaks and correct them? Congrats on the new floor.

Sven: Just curious....Aren't you adding a lot of weight with the extra plywood? Looking forward to seeing it next week.

Bill,
the plywood is only 1/4" thick, so I figure the vinyl is light as compared to the rug, pad and all of the dirt it collected.
I will take pictures and can e-mail them.

How well do the slides work with the new flooring? Any problems with scraping or anything. I absolutely hate the carpet, but have wondered about the slides.

We want to redo our floor at some point. Carpet overlaps in the slide area. How does it work with vinyl or other rigid surfaces? we are thinking of putting vinyl on the inside steps and on an area in front of the shower and across to the lavatory, leaving the carpet around the bed which is low traffic and provides some insulation for bare feet in winter.
Congrats on your new floor. Glad you had this window of opportunity.

I,also, replaced the floor in my 2005 model 3295. I used the "Allure" flooring that went down like hardwood in 6" wide strips. It looks like hardwood and is super durable. I pulled out the carpet and the 10,000 staples and had a rv service install the floor in the living area only. It looks wonderful and the slides work great. I bought the flooring at Home Depot for about $200. and he did the installation in about 6 hours for about $500.00. The strips overlap and seal against each other. He glued all of the edges at the slides so they would not move when the slides closed. We have been very happy with this floor.
