New Pantry Shelves and Magnetic Panel

Well the DW gave me a list of projects that I need to do before we leave New Mexico next month. First I added two shelves in the pantry so she would not have to stack cans so high.

She also ran out of room on the oven vent cover so I put a thin metal panel on the post next to the stove so she would have more room.

The shelves are made from 5/8" oak Plywood with oak 1/4 round on the front edge. I used Minwax Pecan stain to match the pantry. They were put in by gluing and nailing 1/4 round at the desired level then just cutting the shelves to size and gluing them in.

The magnetic panel was made from a magnetic board I cut into two strips to fit between the edge molding on the section by the stove.

Well two projects down and many more to go.

Looks good Jim! I'm going to keep this away from the DW so she doesn't get anymore ideas! Want to come to Nebraska and work on mine?!?

Good Job!
"The magnetic panel was made from a magnetic board I cut into two strips to fit between the edge molding on the section by the stove." Where did you get this metal magnetic board? I've been looking to do the same thing for my wife's magnets but have only found white magnetic boards.

Rondo, Sorry I have enough projects here to keep me busy for a life time. Don't worry about the DW seeing this, they get plenty of ideas anyways so one more won't hurt.

Steve, I bought the magnetic board at Office Depot but you should be able to find it anywhere they sell white boards. We got the silver for contrast. I disassembled the board and used a razor knife to cut 2 strips the width of the area and used wood glue to attach them.

Jim,
Looking good, I really like the magnetic panel, and I will show it to DW (sorry guys!!) to see if she is interested. Thanks for the great idea.

If you want a magnetic board that is also a chalkboard so you can write on it, just spray the magnetic board with chalkboard paint. Probably not as pretty as the silver metallic, but it makes it functional in another way too.

Great looking mods Jim! I've still got shelves on my list of things to do, and you just inspired me and made it easier with the name of the stain.
