Truck To Go With Montana
As regular forum readers will recall, we ordered a 3400RL a couple of weeks ago. Today put an order in for a 2007 Silverado 3500 'classic' drw, Duramax/Allison, CC, LT3 package (all the bells and whistles for you none GM folks), dark blue metallic exterior, dark charcoal leather interior.
My wife said NO MORE TOYS for me for a while...don't understand why they are "my" toys! The truck was strickly a necessity...how else does she expect to drag that 3400 around?? Makes sense to me. She's just not much fun any more!
When this stuff comes in, and if I can figure out how, I'll post a picture or two.

Excellent choice. Lorraine ain't no different. If it was up to her I still be dragging ours around with our old '03 Chevy 2500HD D/A 4X4 Short bed. And now she's says I gotta pay this one off before I can get another. You're right, they ain't much fun anymore.

I think you will be well pleased with your truck choice. We have the GMC version only smaller 2500HD duramax with the allison and it handles the 3400 just fine for our needs. Our trips is mostly shorter in length usually 1 trip a year down to Florida, I think if I was on the road more the 3500 might be the way to go but I would still not get the duelly.
I know the old girl is not much fun any more but you do know that you can't live without them.

Now that is A TRUCK..you will be dragging around that 3400 in style.Helen is a good girl..Loves the goodies as much as I do.Her only "must have " when we were looking for a truck was that it had to be a crew cab so the bird cage would fit through the doors without a struggle.

IMO the 3400 needs a dually and I know a lot of people don't like to hear this. My 06 2955 RL puts 2600 pounds on the pin and my 05 F350 CC LB 4x4 SRW has a 11200 GVWR so I was still legal with my GVW at 11080. Now my 04 F350 SRW only had a GVWR of 9900 pounds so here my little 2955RL, the baby in the Montana line up, would have put that truck overweight by 1000 pounds. I do travel heavy and I have an auxilary fuel tank but I need everything I have on the truck.
I went through a 3400 and I was impressed. If I ever decide to go to that model I will have to get a dually because it is too much trailer for my SRW F350. Enjoy your new toys.

You're gonna love the new truck. I have the 06 and the new higher HP and six speed are great. My 04 bunk house is pretty heavy in the nose too. I was just making it with the 2500 srw at 9200 gvwr. Probably a little over in fact. No problems now. Good luck with the new truck and camper.

My reseach shows this true, or at least a 1 ton srw, for all Montanas...don't know about Mountaineers.

As you can see, my set up is an '05 Silverado 3500 SRW. Our 35RLQ Challenger is just like your 3400. You will notice that the weight specs are nearly the same on our coaches and as far as being able to handle your coach, that dually will do fantastic. You got nothin' to worry about!
Heck, since I work for Lippert, some of you guys would probably be astounded as to what sets on the back of my truck from time to time. Such as 16 to 18000 lb. DoubleTree units, 38 to 40+ foot toy haulers, etc. But, that Duramax and Alison does just fine.
