Toilet bubbling
When I flush my toilet, a bubble of air pops out of the hole splashing whatever is sitting in the bottom of the bowl all over. It seems my holdind tank is producing sewer gas. I would have assumed there would be a vent to prevent that. Before I go borrow a ladder to check if there is one and if it is plugged has anyone else had this experience? If so what was the cause? Should I be using more chemical?

There is a sewer vent on the roof. Mud daubers, bird nest, could be anything but definitely needs checked.

As Bingo said, if the tank isn't so full it's blocking the vent then something is plugging it up.

Agree with above. Either vent is blocked or tank is too full.

Only happened to us when we were too full...now that we have external tank sensors we really know how much ... is in the tank (insert big grinning face here). John

What are external tank sensors? Ive checked my vent but it is ok. We're doing the poop garburator tomorrow so my tank will be empty for sure. But my problem is the tank always shows full, even after it is emptied. I guess the "dipstick" anode is coated with "junk" and therefore isn't working.

You can buy and either install yourself or have installed sensors that go on the outside of the tank. The system is expensive, however. Here's a link to some info on one brand: http://www.modmyrv.com/2009/01/12/rv...monitor-system

You can go to the external sensors and I hear they work well, Big $$. We found after using our 5'er a few times it gets pretty easy to figure when tanks are getting full. We rarely look at the level indicators anymore.(and when we do we wonder why we do knowing they are unreliable.) Jim

Well the full tank certainly was the problem. Although ... I don't know how (as a single guy with no visitors) I managed to fill the blackwater tank in less than two weeks... I guess I'm full of ....

If you have a tetford toilet it could be occasionally not shutting completely and running a trickle of water into the tank. A known problem many of us have experienced.
