New Type Of Fifthwheel Hitch

This is for anyone who likes a clean truck bed.Putnam now makes a hitch that the coupling head stays attached to the fifthwheel. The kingpin goes into the truck bed just like a gooseneck hitch does.
This unit works on the same principle as the gooseneck when you don't need the king pin you simply remove it and your truck bed is clean.
I am using it and it seems to be working great. You can find information on the putnam hitch web site.

I have heard of these, but have never seen one in use. Sounds interesting since I did have a goose neck hay trainler a few years back.

I just went to their website. Is this the hitch that you must have at least an 8' bed? I was excited until I read that. I planned on a short box (6.5') 2500HD!

I've heard that some frames don't take too kindly to extending the leverage of the pinbox that far. The warning was a conversion of fifth wheel to gooseneck, but it would apply to this one as well. It does put extra stress on the frame. I'd check with Keystone before going with this type of hitch.

Everyone, trust me when I say that Eric has made a very good point! Before this type of conversion is done, you may want to call Randy Bowling at our office.

You make a good point and the first thing I thought of when I saw this new hitch. Thanks for posting this warning. I would certainly not want to be the first to use this.
Happy trails.................
