OK, bought the new air compressor. This one is a Porter-Cable brand, 150 psi, 120volt, 6 gallon pancake tank. I aired a rear truck tire from 55 to 80 psi in about 15 seconds. That's an estimate. I didn't clock it. Wow, I was really impressed. I bought it at Lowe's for $159 and tax. It's bigger than my old one. It would sit upright in the basement of the Montana's with the flat floor upstairs (late 2003 and later models) but not in my older models. So it's sitting in the front locker instead.

I think this is the one although I'd have to doublecheck the model number..

Steve R,
What size inverter to you have that will carry the load of the air compressor if you had to use it on the road?

Broome101, I have not yet used this one on the road. I saw at that website that it draws a max of 10amps, so that might put it out of reach for an inverter that works in the truck. I will have to check that out further. My little 150w inverter isn't probably going to cut it. 10 amps would require an inverter of, what, 1200 watts? Is that right?

Broome, it's a 140w inverter. I don't think it's going to handle a 10 amp compressor.

Steve, I just bought same air compressor you have from Lowe's to carry with me. Have ordered a 2500 watt inverter, I think that should handle it out. Inverter says 22 amps AC max.
Question where do you have your inverter wired into the truck. I plan on removing the metal pan from under back seat and mount it onto the floor board, hopefully that will give it enough air circulation not to stay hot, and going to hard wire it to one of my batteries.

After much research, I bought a 12 volt Viair 450C, best on the market, not cheap, but works really well. Installed it on the Ford truck, have an air chuck at the rear of the truck under the bumper with an air gauge, the compressor is mountedon the cross member-skid plate, under the truck. I have dual Hadley air horns and a holding tank.
Google Viair, they have many sizes.

I have a CampbellHausfeld Model RP3000, 300PSI. It will fill from zero to 80#s in about 15 minutes or less. It cost around $40 at Shucks or WalMart?

By-the-way, Gary's posting brings a question to mind. I am still having to winterize my rig for Nov through Feb. Currently I drain and fill with anti-freeze. How much pressure to I have to have to blow out my lines without blowing out my lines? Also, is that better than the drain and anti-freeze method. We will get to the teens here but only for a couple days at a time and not really sustained. Even when we get into the teens, it may still be above freezing during the day...althogh not always.
