A step for the vertically challanged
As noted elsewhere, reaching into a dually bed to reach the safety pin can be a real challange. I'm six feet tall but still can't reach it standing on terra firma. There are commercial steps available but they are pricey (IMHO). I fabricated the following from scrap parts in my shop. It ain't too pertty but it works. And if I forget and run over it not much lost. (wonder if I should paint it.)
This is the step folded up and ready to be tossed in the bed
This is how it looks in use.

Get a patent and put it on ebay, you will get a lot of orders. I need to make one so I can get the key into my lock on the release arm,its always a trip. Paint it yellow,it will show up in your mirror if you forget to take it off.

Looks like this should work great. I'll need to hurry and make mine before the patent is released!

Nice idea. I wonder if it would hold up to my weight of 230. I think i would use a cable for extra support. LOL.

Richard,
I tip the scale at 225 so I think 230 would be fine.

I don't have a problem like that since I have split running boards. Really allow me to get to things in the bed of the truck really easy.

Great Idea!
I have been using a little fold up seat (7"X7") that I bought for $3 at the flea market. It folds quick, easy and flat and I keep it in LadyRam's toy box.

I can't believe a person spends 60,000 + and probably 40,000 for a new truck and can't afford a wheel step. Talk about tight.

It's true. But, these things are always challanges to me. I also brew my own beer and wine, I built my own airplane and am currently building a frontend loader from scratch using electric prime power. Why? Just 'cause it looked like an interesting project.

There is more to life and the simple pleasure it brings us then opening the check book and spending money.
