Checkin in as a new forum member
Howdy folks, my wife and I are full time RV'er. We have a 2013 Montana Mountaineer 375FLF. We are retired and looking forward to traveling south from Washington State soon. I recently had a disc fusion on my lower back and have to wait to get clearance from the doctor to travel though. Next week maybe.
We reside in Port Susan Camping Club in Tulalip, WA which is leased reservation land, we have two lots that allow us year round living if we choose. I have been an RV'er for many years mostly hunting though. We really like this 5th wheel, my only real issue is that I have a short bed and have the PullRite slider hitch that is just to heavy to manage, but it is what it is for now. I am a member of many forums and like to participate. I don't get into back and forth he said/she said issues. I try to stick to the facts.

Please elaborate on "just to heavy to manage". If you are full timing is there a real need to remove your hitch? We are full timing since September 2010 and the only time I removed my hitch was when I upgraded from Reese to B & W and the other time was when trading trucks. One never knows when he/she will wake up with "hitch itch"!

I don't think the new Pullrite hitch is a slider. I am also curious as to why a fulltimer would need to remove the hitch. I am a part timer and pull mine out with a winch from garage header.

I full time and find a need to remove the hitch all the time, to gain bed space for stuff I carry and so that I am not carrying around all that extra dead weight if I'm not towing. I carry enough stuff in my tool box but all of the stuff combined including the tool box probably weighs less than the total hitch. And finally, since I own a decent-sized truck, relatives, friends and neighbors often ask me to help them haul stuff. Without the hitch in the bed, I am happy to help.
I have a two piece Husky 16K hitch consisting of the head unit and a four-legged base. I also created a dolly with pneumatic wheels to easily move the hitch under my front cap while it's removed from the truck bed even if the ground is gravel or otherwise soft.
We fulltime in southern California and the campgrounds around here are filled with northerners trying to temporarily escape (maybe "flee" is a better way to put it) from the cold, wet or snowy climates of their northern homes. Maybe we'll see you one day.

While we are full timers we aren't able to hit the road as much as we want too right now so I kinda wish the hitch was out of the bed once in a while. I had back disc fusion in December and can't lift anything so the hitch stays for now. We hope to hit the road and enjoy retirement soon though.
