Oh No Another New Guy

We just purchased a Montana 3711FL and we pick it up on 11 Feb. 2016. We have a 2015 F350 SRW PSD with CC of 3744 and according the the handout the 5er had pin weight of 2530 lbs. Looking at the floor plan with the fridge, most of the kitchen cabinets behind the forward edge of the forward axle and the bathroom and bedroom aft of the axles we thought we would be fine on pin weights. Even the front basement is only 16.5" wide so not much storage there either. Now after the fact we found out he pin weight on 3711FL for 2016 is 2790 lbs and dry weight of 13200 the handout quoted the pin weight for a 3710FL. Now we are worried - we hope that lack of storage forward of the axles will negate any weight added by batteries and propane. I had a max dry pin weight of 2250 in my head but talk myself in to this one for the above reasons thinking it was 2530 lbs pin weight. This is the one with front window.

Pass scale weights we added about 1200 lbs to dry weight so hopefully that we keep us under or GVWR. I would say that 80% of that will go over or behind the axles and all the heavy basement stuff going in the 2nd basement behind the axles. I will know for sure Thursday since we drive right by scales on the way home and the 5er will be loaded for weekend style trip. Hope this didn't cause a another truck upgrade.

Think if I told the wife if she wants to added a pound new stuff to the 5er she will need to loose pound of weight. Think that will work

Welcome to the forum from sunny Eastern Washington. The scales will tell you what you need to know. I agree if you have storage in the back it could subtract weight off of the pin. As. Dick said weight adds up real easy and real fast. It will still add to the total weight.

Dick I would have to rephrase that comment with my wife. I would have to tell her their is no more room in the unit to carry any thing else.

Welcome to the forum from W Ill. I have a new 3950 waiting to be picked up. I think the weight addition is the second air is now a mandatory. Good luck with your weight problem. I know with my DW if we have an empty spot she has to fill it.

I sent you the specs as I have the exact same setup and I was weighed by RVSEF at the fall rally.
I can tell you with a full basement and packed for a week worth of living and food, plus 1/3 fresh tank of water we only gained about 1200lbs over dry weight and our pin weight was at 20% at 2,775. all numbers were green with a few hundred pounds to spare all around. Best money I ever spent and if you get a chance to use their weighing service it is great peace of mind.

Jason - they publishing the 2016s with 2790 dry pin and 13200 dry weight so hopefully mine only goes up couple hundred pounds instead of 800 like my last 5er did.

Jason does the CW3 mean you mean you are Army pilot. If so I was 67N2F (UH1 Crew Chief) and 67W (Tech Inspector for all Army Aircraft) and retired with 20 years.

151A Aviation maintenance Tech. Walking Warrant Still serving. I was a crew chief on CH47s and an Inspector before I went Warrant.

My best guess on the weight change for the 2016 is the front window is a lot heavier than the fiberglass cap. everything else is the same.

I also had serious concerns about pin weight on our 3791. Turned out the actual pin weight didn't increase much at all once loaded...given 98% of our stuff is in rear storage under the "den" and the only thing in the basement is the grill and vacuum attachments.
