Used paid for rig question about insurance?

Ok I am trying to figure all this out at once and my head hurts.

I am open to all advice.

Any of you that own older units outright, do you carry insurance on your Montana or do you just use the tow vehicles insurance and your blanket sticks and bricks umbrella policy?

I have had state farm insurance for almost 20yr's now with no claims other then free glass replacement. I have my sticks and bricks home, Harley and both vehicle with them. I don't remember what the total loss we talked about but they quoted me a 6mo policy $250.00 deductible would cost me $304.00.

I paid $17,000 for the unit and it is honestly probably worth to me if it were a total loss with all its goodies about $20,000 to $22,000.

What would you do?

Thank you in advance.

Dan

I have a 2006 Monty. I do not carry full replacement cost if totaled. I carry just the current value of the rig if totaled. Full replacement with a new rig is way to costly. Yes it is getting older and worth less to someone else. We keep it well maintained for our use with many upgrades and will eventually sell it. It is not an investment that anyone expects to grow in value--at least I don't. We enjoy it and will accept current value if totaled and move on. We are in our "old Monty" about 100 nights a year.

Our Montana is 4 1/2 years old now and I still carry full replacement policy on it because we are full timers.

Like Tim & Susan, we carry insurance for current value on our 2007. We also have State Farm covering the house, two vehicles, and the Monte. Don't remember off hand how much adding the Monte added. We use ours 20-25 nights avg per year.

Sounds high to me, we have five year full replacement/or purchase price through Progressive for our 2014 model with disappearing deductible starting at $2500 and going down over four years (already used this policy once and the deductible is now $1875) and the annual rate is $600.

We carry insurance for two reasons. One to cover the cost of the camper, and two, for liability costs for other peoples property in the event of an accident that might be considered our fault.

When we had a sticks and bricks we insured our rig with Farm Bureau for the reasons Neal states above. Since we full time and have added a lot of major modifications we now have full timers insurance with an agreed upon value of $92 K, but it's our home and we want it replaced solar system, custom floor and all.

600 a yr sounds kinda high for an older rig, I was just quoted 284 a year for a 2016 Montana with 500 comp ded and 1000 collision ded.

Mark A - which company gave you that quote?

Thank you all for the advice. I am either going to use a different company or sit down and talk with my current ins co manager and see if we can come to a better a figure.

God bless

Sounds super high. I was quoted 90 a year on a older 2001 Monte. Also have home and three other vehicles under same police.

I'm not sure of the underwriter. My agent sells lots of companies, I'll find out. Possibly Mutual of Enumclaw.

You might want to check to see if that premium is six months or annual. In California, State Farm's RV policy is annual. The policy is an ACV policy which means that your Montana is covered for the current market value at the time of loss, less deductible. State Farm's policy doesn't cover the contents as they and the general liability are covered under your homeowners policy. The liability for towing the vehicle extends from the vehicle coverage towing it. State Farm's policy is not designed for full timers. I have a brand new Montana High Country 352RL with a $500 deductible and the ANNUAL premium is $337.00. I hope this helps a little.

Guess I'm kinda high but hopefully it is because I'm in Flo0rida. Just bought a 2014 Mountaineer 375 FLF and was quoted $1800 (full timer) policy from Progressive, called Miller and got same policy with lower deductible for $1100. About a $700 annual savings from Miller. Very easy top work with and would strongly reccomend to all at least give Miller a chance to quote you, don't think you will be disappointed.

I have Auto Owners in MI and pay $110 every 6 months. $100 deductible on comp and $500 on collision. Also, if I'm parked for an extended amount of time I can drop the collision and save approx. 20%.

Yeah..I'm in florida too. I'm with Progressive. I'm do to renew at the end of the month. My policy went up $145.00. I called to complain and they said it was general rate increase in Florida. Been shopping around and found not many ins co. are writing RV policies in FL. So far Progressive is still the lowest at $793.00 a year for my 2012 3750 FL with actual cash value at time of loss coverage. I just sent an online quote request to Miller hopefully it will be lower
