Recessed light under door/inside of steps
Okay, I have not seen this question before but I bet someone will know what I am talking about. On our trailer (2012 3402) there is an orange light mounted about a foot inside of the top step (outside not inside). It appears to be a light to help show you where the stairs are when it is dark. After 4 or 5 trips now with this trailer (and having owned a 2006 Montana in the past) I have figured out how to operate everything but that one little light...
Any ideas?
Thanks, Glenn

Ours only works when you turn the outside light on with the remote control unit and you must turn it off with the remote as well.

Ours turns on whether you use the remote or the inside switch, but why it isn't tied to the porch light is a total mystery to me.

You are absolutely right Dick, would make much more sense.

I also agree with your assessment Dick. I always wondered the same. I've been in a lot of locations where I didn't want to turn the scare lights on because I didn't want to bother the neighbors, but it sure would have been nice to been able to have that step light on.

As explained to me by a factory rep: You leave the rig during daylight hours and the porch light is off. You return after dark and can use the remote to illuminate the pathway and steps to the trailer.
I thought about rewiring the step light to the porch switch, but think I like the original feature more useful.

It does seem to me to be rude to neighbors when you must turn the scare light on just to get the step lights. Much more snese to me to have the remote wired to the door light and step light.

Once again we have seemingly reasonable reasoning by the designers, sitting at their design desks designing these wounderful products, but who never USE the product they design.
I'm not sure I understand what I just said but I knew what I meant when I said it .

If they knew what we know they would then know that we are all aware of the fact that we know what we know. And if all above was true, and if they too had what we have, we would then all know what we know except those that do not have what we have and therefore have no way of knowing what we know (I think).

On ours my thought was it would be nice if that light would come on with the interior lights that come on when the door is opened

Ours did not have the light so I installed one. Wired it to the switch for the porch lite . Very easy , works great.

Did the same as HOOK. Very simple to fish the wires.

I was just thinking how nice it would be to have a light that I had to try and figure out how to get to turn on, but nope, no light. So guess some weekend I got to do some wiring to get one put in. Not a big problem but we have gone and come back to a totally dark rig. Not a big problem unless you are scared of the boogyman. We do leave the yellow porch light on all the time, rarely turn it off because of that. Also looking into one of those motion detector lights too.

Does anyone actually walk around with the remote in their pocket/purse? Or better yet, on a string tied around their neck?

I called Keystone with that question and was told it should come on with porch light, so they rewired ours.

Would be nice with the porch light or the door switch. How would you run the wires? (Not the best electrician in the world!)

It took me untill page two that you guys were talking about the OUTSIDE steps... LOL!!!
Considering that my wife broke three....yes 3 of her toes falling on the steps on the INSIDE, I was thinking of riging some kind of lighting up on the inside steps to see at night. We even leave a small light on in the kitchen for wandering around at night, but 4 hours in the emergency room later.... Im thinking I need to put some kind of lights on those steps!

Funny you wrote this. We used to (and still do) leave our porch light on all the time. Once, we came home and found the fixture brown and melting. That's why we started our LED quest - didn't want a meltdown! Oh, and because LEDs don't attract bugs, we replaced our amber lens with a clear one.
