Your Opinion Please-Bedsaver

I had a Pullrite Superglide for 10 years and understand how the locking jaws work and never had a problem at all with the hitch. Now with the new full bed truck we have a Pullrite Super Fifth 20K which is not a slider but uses the exact same jaw locking mechanism as our Superglide did. Here is where I need your opinion, I know Blue Ox is not manufacturing the Bed Saver anymore, but I found a brand new one for my new hitch for only $65.00 as a closeout. Is it a waste on a Pullrite hitch where the jaws lock automatically? Does anyone have a Bed Saver on a Pullrite hitch? Thanks

My previous hitch was a Pulrite Super 5th. My current hitch is a Reese Elite. Both have the wrap around jaw that is connected to the handle and self latching. The handle can't go in unless the jaw wraps around the pin. And there is a latch pin to secure the handle when latched. And that pin will not go in unless the jaw is fully wrapped around the king pin. Short of high hitching or a total hitch failure, I don't see any way to drop the trailer. I feel comfortable enough to not see a need for anything more. But that is just me. But $65 is not much money if it gives you peace of mind.

High hitching is common enough for me to have one.

I know that happens. But if you always start the hitching process with the pin box plate 1"-2" below the hitch plate so that the pin box rides up onto the hitch to latch, I don't see how the pin could ever get on top of the latch doing that, especially the wrap around jaw type. Plus there would be an obvious significant gap between the two plates on mine if it somehow happened.

I have read about people describing raising the 5er until the pin box is above the hitch before backing under. That would certainly do it.

For $65.00 that is the best insurance you could ever have. It may never be used but all it takes is once and that $65.00 is saving you at least a $2000 if not more in repairs to the box and the tailgate not counting possible repairs to the Monte as well.

I'd go for it at that price. That's cheaper than my Butch's was.

I have a bedsaver on our Trailersaver hitch and I would have one no matter what hitch we had.

Do they have one for a Curt? At that price I would not hesitate.

Why did they discontinue making these? Just curious we've had one for several years and I wasn't aware they were no longer available.

When I asked Blue Ox for a set of installation instructions they said that the market did not support the product anymore. There are still some available on Ebay that's where I found mine. They also told me that they still have some in their warehouse but do not sell directly to the public you need to go through a RV parts store.

By the way the reason I started this thread was to see if putting a Bed Saver on a Pullrite was over kill because of how the hitch works. Needless to say I did buy it.

Had our Bedsaver on a Reese 16K and now a Curt Q20. Probably will never need it but after over $7000 worth of damage when the first Reese failed, wont leave home without it.

We purchased our Trailersaver hitch December 15th 2015 called Blue Ox for a bedsaver for that hitch and was told they had just recently stopped making them because there was no demand for them. Did find one at a RV supply store.

I bought a bedsaver for our pull rite 16k super hitch last year after reading on this forum of dropped trailers. I am happy with the decision.

Rich they told me the same thing, that the market went soft, but Blue Ox customer service said they had a few, didn't say which ones, in their warehouse. I can only repeat what they told me.

They basically told me the same thing although at that time they were still selling to the public. They did not have one in stock but advised that there should be some in the market place. It took me 3 calls to find one at Auto Accessories Garage,In Frankfort,Ill at 264.40 they had 3 in stock for my Trailersaver BD3 Hitch. My guess is they will be nearly impossible to find now.

Rich when you hook up to a hitch that has the Bed Saver is it any different, I guess what I am asking is the Bed Saver in the way and you need to be aware of it?
