BLACK TANK FLUSH NOZZLES

It seems that my black tank flush nozzles are plugged. Is there a way to clean them without removing them from the tank?

I'm having the same problem, didn't want to drop under side of trailer to fix. Not sure if I should plan on putting in a better unit if there is one.
Any suggestions of those out there that might of also done it.

What makes you feel it is "plugged"?

Make sure the hose is hooked to the correct inlet in the convenience center. It has happened where someone hooked it to the winterizing inlet by mistake.

we had the same problem.....took down the underwrap....took off the hose leaving the nozzle on the tank...took a very small drill and drilled new larger holes around the circumference of the nozzle within the tank....appears to work with no more clogs....the existing nozzle seems to have very fine slits around the circumference that make the water wash the tank sides...if you can clean them but very difficult...I gave up and drilled new holes....used a right angle drill.... using a mirror and flashlight you can see in the nozzle....I do use more water quicker when flushing...but seems to be worth it....plus cost was only time and about 30-45 minutes...start to finish...good luck.

I have the same problem with my rear black tank. The front tank still gets cleaned. When I close the rear tank while cleaning, then reopen it, no clear water. Right now, I simply go into the half bath, run some water after emptying, and get out what I can. I may take one of the hose-tip cleaners down through the toilet.

I don't use the black tank flush nozzles. I installed a Flush King Valve and reverse flush all my tanks and dump tube. It works great and you wouldn't believe how much waste is still left in your black tank after dumping. Two reverse flushes on my black tank and one each on the grey. The first flush on the black tank still has waste & debris comming out. The second flush is usually all clear water with no debris. It takes a little longer but I know all my tanks and dump tubes are clean of all residule debris. I am not a full timer so my rig sometimes sits in the storage unit in FL a month or two at a time.

I am with DmaxDually on this one. The Flush King valve just seems to do a much better job than the built in systems. I am also back flushing each gray tank, one at a time, once and awhile.

suggestion would be to not waste your time using the flush system. do it the old fashion way of filling the tank up and then dumping and redoing it a couple of time.

One very common problem is the back-flow preventer valve going bad and not letting water flow to the nozzles. That's what I would check first.

I agree with Tom. My flush stopped working - just sounded like a little trickle or nothing. Having read about this a LOT on this site, I looked around and found my flush under the sink. I took it apart and just removed the little ball in it that stops the backflow. Works great ever since. My previous Montana had a similar issue but the backflow was inside the wall and the dealer cut a hole in it and fixed it.
Yes I know I don't have a backflow preventer, but I may add one on the intake connection. I said may... I got to thinking and if the water is turned on at the faucet and water is flowing INTO the tank, then if I turn the faucet off, there is no way the water can get back into the clean water system. Am I missing something?

I first checked the back flow preventer which is actually a clear check valve in the wall. It is working as it should. Now I need to know where to find a Flush King valve.

C/W has them but I got mine cheaper off Amazon. The great thing about the flush king valve is 1.it's clear so you can see the water comming out of you tanks so know it's clean and 2. it has a gate valve on it so you won't get any surprises when you take the cap off to dump if any one of your valves have a slight leak. The previous owner left one of the grey tank valve open when I bought my rig. The first time I dumped I got a surprise. That's when I went and got the king flush valve so even if I ever forget a valve open or one leaks that won't happen again because of the extra gate valve.

A couple of other things that you could try to unplug the nozzles, try putting a few (4 or 5 ) gallons of vinegar down the tank and leaving it for a few days, a camping world tech told me to try this. Another possibility is blow compressed air through the black water flush using a blow out plug used to blow out the water lines, don't exceed 60 psi. I did both and my black water flush is working again. I saw a video, which I could remember where which showed that the best way to flush a black tank was using the black water flusher, it compared hydro flush and other back flushing methods and showed that only a black water flusher actually does the job.

If the nozzles are at or near the top of the tank, it would take a lot more than 4-5 gallons of vinegar to get to that level to soak the nozzles. I would be more inclined to think pumping vinegar thru the black tank flush line would do more good.

Interesting to see that the external flush devices actually did very little toward cleaning the tank while giving the impression the tank is clean by the clear water in the clear fitting.

I'm not so concerned with the walls of the tank getting spotless. I do appreciate that they seem to get the residual off of the bottom of the tank during the flushing.

Maybe the Kelpes will be along and explain what they had when they had their black tank removed and what the independent service tech told them. It is quite an eye opener!

Now that I've read the book and saw the movie, running a garden hose into the commode will do the same as everything mentioned here. All we are doing is refilling the tank with fresh water and dumping again! Does it really matter which end of the tank the fresh water enters? Just had our black tank replaced. Changed out dump valve and rear flush thingy. So easy a retired letter carrier could do it.

Assume the Flush King wouldn't work if your discharge line handles 2 black tanks? Or would you empty one, use the Flush King, when finished, close that tank and repeat on the second tank?
