Purchasing a new Montana - Fed Up!

I am negotiating a new 2018 3920 FB and trading in a 2013 3900 FB. I am sooooo disgusted! They offer nothing for the trade and boost the amount for the new one from $75,500 that every other dealer is offering to $89,000 with $20,00 for the trade-in. Give me a break! I will just keep the old one - the heck with it! Does anyone know of a factory direct dealer?

A quick search of Camping World showed them selling them for right close to the 75k range. I actually looked at the floor plan,it is nice as the DW loves the bathtub.

Ok here is how to get the best deal on a camper:

Research till you find the exact model you want.

Bid that model for CASH PRICE OUT THE DOOR NO TRADE between a bare minimum of three dealers preferably more. Make sure one is camping world and don’t be shy about going out of state! DO NOT MENTION A TRADE OR LOAN AT THIS TIME!!!! Work the dealers back and forth till you have the very best price. It doesn’t hurt to tell them what the dealers are offering. Don’t let them side track you by throwing in this or that. You want this to be a commodity bid war. This process may take a couple weeks to complete

Once you have the very best price then and only then bring the trade into the picture! And now you kick the deal around again between dealers!

Once you get the very best pricing you can negotiate the loan rates. I highly recommend kicking that between the dealers and a couple independent lenders

A lot of work yes but you will save thousands and know you got the best deal!

ALWAYS BE WILLING TO WALK OUT ON ANYONE NOY WILLING TO WORK WITH YOU!!!!

Best thing would be to try selling yours on rv trader, then if you’re willing to travel to Indiana or Michigan you can save big time. I sold mine last fall and now have a 3791RD on order. I negotiated with three dealers in my area all the way up to the owners. I beat their best offers by $16,000 by ordering in Indiana plus got a few “extras” included. With state sales tax on that $16,000 saved, add another $1,000 saved.

Agree, always best to sell yourself at market value, many dealers don’t want trade-ins, particularly if several years old, units often sit on their lots, plus they are looking at resale profit.

Cash is no longer a bargaining chip. Actually, as lenders send the dealer a check often you do better with a loan. I got my best price at CW in Myrtle Beach. Took out a loan and paid it off in 60 days. Another example, home builders will often give $1000 - $2000 closing costs if using their lender. Ford, GM, and all often tie a large portion of the rebate on using their lender ~ $2000 for using Ford Credit and pay it off in 30 days.

Adding to my comments above, it doesn’t surprise me that the dealer offered you only $20,000 for your 2013. I was offered $25,000 trade in for my 2014 Alpine last year. At the time NADA Guides had it at $42,000 trade in value. I sold it for $43,000.

Find a different dealer and sell your rig yourself vice trading. Don't be scared to travel to get your new rig.

Give Walnut Ridge RV in New Castle, IN a call. They beat the pants off of everyone when we bought, ...by a whole lot! So much so that it made sense to drive out there from the west coast to get it. Won't hurt to give them a call to see.

We are or should say were having the same problem. We were looking at an SOB and the trade value was dirt. So we decided to stay in the monty also. We got a price of $64000 and it has to be ordered and that's a great deal on this SOB brand factory direct because this model was selling locally for $76000 but with only a trade of $18000 on our 2014 that has a retail of $30000 it was a no go. And a no way. And we full time so we cant just sell it out-rite because we need a place to live.

You misunderstood my cash out the door. It is simply there very lowest commodity bid price. You don’t want to complicate the process with financing until the end of the negotiations. One step at a time getting the best deal ya can at each step. The buyers real power is the ability to simply walk away.

I'd shop around, that model is cheaper at other dealers, out here where I'm at, I haven't see a Montana listed for anything over 68k and that's at one dealer. The popular FK models are going for 65k or less out where I live. I'd shop around. You'll find a better deal for that model at a better price. We ordered the new 3700LK and got it for way less then what I see it for online and it's a new model as well

Whatever you do never ever walk into a dealer and throw yourself on their mercy! They have none and it is the salesman’s job to get as much out of you as they can! Every new camper and car salesman is taught the 4 corners game. It is inflated sales price, trade in value, loan cost and fluff (stuff they throw in that really isn’t worth much to sweeten deal). In order to get the best deal you have to take on each of those topics separately. You first want to know what you want (the commodity) then force them to bid against other dealers. Never ever let them trap you into talking about monthly notes or trade in value before you have locked them down on their basement price!

I would add Pete's RV and Tiara RV in Indiana and Lakeshore RV in Muskegon, Michigan as places to call. Each of them fight for the best deal for the customer and claim to match or beat any other offer in the nation. Most higher MSRP models can be had for mid to upper $50K range with not much negotiating. The lower MSRP models can be even lower. Usually their first offer sounds great but I have found that it's not the final offer by a long shot. The key is to know your stuff before contacting them so they will know you are not a newbie to prices. You won't be disappointed.

Not at all for the dealers actual bottom price to be at least 25-30% below MSRP. Hugh markup on RVs
