What kind of surge protector, if any would you recommend, 50 amp. I did a search and couldn't find a previous topic. Thanks,

Progressive X3. My Surgeguard went bad after 4 years....no warranty, no tech support. Progressive is lifetime.

Progressive for us also. We have the portable edition so we can check the pedestal before we back in.

Progressive also. Good product and very good customer service. I have the hardwired unit with the remote. The remote shows the frequency of the incoming power, the voltage and current on both legs, displays error codes and has a switch to bypass the unit. The decision is yours to have a hardwired unit or portable unit. There are benefits to both.

Hardwired unit benefits - allows you to have a remote unit for the display inside your RV, has a bypass switch, is secure from theft, less to hook up when you are setting up.
Portable unit benefits - less expensive, easy to return if it ever fails.

I also had a Surge Guard product that had problems, and to make matters worse I had problems with their lack of customer service. That company has a lot to learn.

Progressive hard wired unit. Had an E7 error code this weekend at Icicle River Campground. Unit never did turn off the power unless it did while we were gone and then reset itself. I like it because it tells me amp draw and voltage of each line coming into the unit and power usage. When I first plugged in (30amp) both lines in were showing 113 and 114 volts. Their employee told me it was voltage drop due to my 50 amp cord. I suggested it was voltage drop due to the long runs and high demand for power 90 + degrees out side.

So far I am very happy with mine. :-)

Another hard-wired Progressive here, on the advice of the MOC. Good product with a good company to back it up.

We use the portable 50 Progressive. As mentioned previously, it allows the flexibility of checking the power before pulling in and hooking up if it is an area we aren't familiar with the quality of power or it looks questionable. So far no issues. Only perk of the internal with a remote monitor would be seeing the readings inside the trailer on occasion, especially when I am on a 30A site and pushing the limits.

Progressive here too. Surge Guard has too many failures with no warranty.

Progressive also. The one time I didn't use it the microwave was damaged because of a bad 50 amp post.

Had a surguard for 5 years and it started turning off the power for no apparent
reason. Called Surguard and they told me to buy a new one and would not offer any
support, as it has only a 12 month warranty. I bought a portable Progressive Industries
and I'm happy.

Thanks for all the responses! So the ones that have it hardwired did you take it to a dealer and what was the cost for that?

Thanks again!

I also have the hardwired, put it in prior to disconnecting from TV when I brought it home from the dealer. Not hard to do, they give good instructions. Worst part is bending the wires inside the small box.
