We used one some last winter and it does heat the unit well. Our CO detector has a read out and it never showed anything other than normal readings. The one thing we did not like was the fumes it puts out.
Dennis, I am not crazy about the smell, but I get used to it a bit when working in the Monte when it's cold.
The benefits offset the smell, we may have another take on it on the road. It all depends on where we are parked, how frugal we need to be and how our provisions are lasting..

Ozz is it also true that if two bottles arn't used on some of these heaters it will only light up half of the catalectic pads.

Just a quick question to those that use these type heaters, other than them heating better than the OEM forced air heaters, and less drain on the batteries, but more propane usage, whats wrong with the new infrared heaters? and is it that most are full timers that are dry camping use these type heaters.

Don, I haven't read up on those small heaters, so I don't know, I don't know if they are two independent heaters in one container, or appliance. If they are, then my theory is full of ..wait for it.... Hot air..
I shouldn't input on the second half of your question since I don't have one, but isn't there a drawback pertaining to keeping the cat heater burners, or whatever you call them really clean? and, wouldn't they fall into the category of the parsimonious fuel usage type?

The main reason we added the heater was because of boon docking. The furnace draws 8 amps when running. Depending on how cold it is that can amount to a lot of Solar amps. I have the ProCom blue flame heater tied into the units low pressure side with a quick disconnect.

Mine was a newer camo model but the dealer told me that there is a small amount of oil blended with the propane to prevent the tanks from rusting. There is no filter on the line and after a while it breaks down the rubber/ plastic hose. That's what happened to mine the hose leaked and the heater ignited the propane it was like a blow torch that subsequently melted the heater into a big glob of plastic. He knew right away what happened and when I mention that to the guy at mr heater he acted like he had never heard of that before. There is a big coverup going on there.

Sfish you are one lucky person, Cover up??? might be....I did see a post about a inline filter posted by another I cant remember who but I do remember that it was around 10.00. I have been tossing that idea for my BBQ that always gets oil from propane which ends up in the Q's regulator and hoses.
8 amps is a lot of energy Mud Chief I agree with your thinking in Boon docking. a question on low pressure if you screw in a portable tanks into the heater they are at regular propane pressure, and aren't regulated. If you are using low pressure is the flame lower causing less BTU's to be produced?

Don, the unit is designed to run off of low pressure. I tapped into the line going to the hot water heater. Mine is only 10,000 BTU's but it will run you out if left on high.

mudchief good information to know, where did you mount the heater? or is it movable, I guess its movable if you have a quick disconnect. can I ask which type heater it is? do you use the Procomm or mr.buddy.

Thanks Don

Did you buy the two foot assemblies for the heater? also do you leave it in one spot in the RV, or move it around for the wife at shower time, I have to do that with my electric heaters they just don't seem to do a good heat job in our RV, also did you buy it with the fan accessory is that 110 VAC or is it 12 VDC. too many questions sorry. now I need to figure out how to get one sent to me in California. sounds like a job for OZZ!

Don,
I ordered mine from Amazon. And did get the feet with it, you can wall mount them, thus the no-feet models.
I posted this somewhere, but here is what I did:

Don, the 10K BTU does not come with feet. I ordered the one's for the 20K BTU unit and they fit ok. I leave it in one place and it heats the whole unit unlike the electric units, I did not order the one with a blower but have found that I don't need it. It heats up the unit when it is cold much faster than the furnace does.

heck of a gas detector.

If I were looking for a heater, if I had electric, I'd get one of those electric/oil heaters...they are quiet and work well in a trailer.

eddie, we got these for off-grid use, since electric uses so much power. I like the electric/oil heaters while hooked up to power too.

We have the Mr Buddy 9K/4K and have removed the regulator on it. Have the hose connected to where the regulator was. We have tapped into the LP line that feeds the frig and furnace. Using a LP approved quick connect, we just plug in the heater and it heats the trailer, using no electricity, great for dry camping in the cool.

We crack a roof vent about a inch, and the hot air will go out it and the rig has enough poor fitting areas air can get in.

We are still here, so using it all night, not a issue.

Jim

Thanks Ozz for the pictures on how to do it, and Mudchief on where you put when in use.
It seems that Amazon has the lower prices on these heaters then Ebay which is about 150.00 more for the same heater, and amazon wont sell in California, SxxKs!!! I will see what I can work out with Ozz on price and shipping.
