The perfect storm

We live in the hills and mountains of western Va. We have had about 5 inches of rain an the last few days and now it's coming down by the buckets full. Our hay field looks like a river our the road is flooded. We are OK but those who live close the river will be flooded by this afternoon. This will be a flood of historic portions unless it stops now. That isn't likely the forecast is for rain through the next 2 days. At least it's not like the floods in the flat lands where water comes up for days or weeks and then takes that long to go down. When the rain quits the river will be back in its banks in 24 hours.

Sorry for your issues. That system is headed here and we expect much rainfall, continuing through the week. Hope everyone gets through it ok, down there and up here, and everywhere in-between. Still better than the stuff going on out west, I'd wager.

We have had rain for six days straight here in Lake Gaston NC. After reading of your situation, we are no longer complaining.

It's called 'climate change', I believe. We're headed back to Northern VA and in Cheyenne right now after spending a couple months in the west and around San Francisco. After weeks of no rain, dust, ash falling like snow, smoky skies and dirt, it almost sounds great - but I'm not really looking forward to that much water!

Walt, maybe you need to get some pontoons fitted to your rig before you get any further east We are south of Yosemite, will be here for a few more months, and it's scary dry. The in-laws have only been evacuated once for maybe five days, fire got to maybe a 1/4 mile away, and that was less than two months ago. Not out of the woods yet, but rain is predicted for tomorrow, so things are looking up. The son has been working north of Napa replacing burned electric poles, wire, and transformers, working up to 16 hours a day. Photos of the area are sad, all those homes totally gone. Those on the east coast should be enjoying that liquid sunshine, even though it can be a bit much at times.

Roanoke 15 miles down stream got 2 inches of rain Floyd 15 miles up stream got 10 to 12 inches. A few roads and a few houses were washed away. Still it wasn't as bad as it could have been. I worked today to make my road passable.
As I sat on my tractor and worked on my road I thought about MOC member TomS. He was here this spring and ask how I got my camper up to our house. I thought about telling him how I got it across our bridge and up to our camper shed but I just said " I've got a Ford you know". Tom looked at me with a little sheepish grin and said " that is why I ask". When we all quit laughing his wife looked over at me and said "I think he got you with that one". I think he did was my reply.
