Life Lock??

Question for everyone. Have any of you all checked into the services such as "Life Lock" to secure your credit cards, bank accounts and/or Soc. Sec. Numbers? Thinking something like this might be a good idea for the wife and I since we all travel around the country and use our credit cards everywhere.

Anyone have any experience with these types of outfits or recommendations?

Read it carefully. You may be able to set up a similar reporting system with your bank. Set spending limits, withdrawal limits,Etc

Scott,

You can do the same thing yourself by calling the credit reporting services (Equifax, Transunion, and Experian) and setting up freezes on your accounts. This way no one can access your info and set up accounts , etc.

Depending on what state of residency you have it may cost up to $15 per account to remove the freeze and nothing to place the freeze. They give you a pin/ password to access and remove the freeze at your convenience anywhere from 15 min to 30 days.

Since we have done this year's ago we no longer get offers from credit card companies, Etc.

Also you may have to lift yearly if your insurance company does credit checks or if you want to open new accounts.

Well worth it and is controlled by you.

My kid uses LifeLock ... it's only @$90/yr for basic service. If say your are in process of buying a large ticket item and have several credit checks going out while lenders do their checks ... LifeLock will call you to see if you are aware of the credit checks. If you buy a big ticket item way out of your home zip code they will call you and ask if you made the purchase. It seems on the up and up to me.

Thanks for the info and the links. I didn't know you could do a lot of the same things yourself for free. Think I will go that route as a lot of the reviews are not to good on some of these companies. Thanks again guys for saving me some heart ache.

we used life lock ands I have no real complaints but we did find that most of the things that we needed to do could be done for free.
It is handy if you do not want to take the times to do it yourself. we can set up limits and alerts through our bank. Literally within seconds of using our accounts we get a message that it has been used and for what and where. If the amount is over our set limits the bank will not pay and will call us or text us. You do have to remember to call the bank and lift the limits if you are making a big purchase.

waste of money. just monitor your own activities. limit the number of credit cards and when you do charge on internet use only a specific card.
