Our refrigerator is reading the proper numbers
For instance. The fridge is reading 36 degrees and freezer minus 2 but neither one comes close to reading or feeling like their number

Put a good alcohol based thermometer in the fridge and I bet it will be stable very near that 36f. Then you can try the same in freezer, although my thermometer only goes to minus 2 on its scale so I can't measure less than that. I have my freezer set to minus two and the really good high fat ice cream is hard to get out of the container.

To test the refrigerator place a bottle of water on the middle shelf with a thermometer in the water for a few hours. The reading will eliminate warm/cold drafts.
