Need electrical help
I have a progressive surge protector. I was at home running on my 30 amp outlet I installed a couple of years ago. The AC was on and after 30 minutes or so, the progressive clicked off and then back on, then off again. It still showed 114 V on both lines but had an open ground error.
I looked this up but don't know what to do about it. I checked and I think my 30 amp cord (connected to the 50 amp cord) has 120 v from the 2 flat connectors (Hot and whatever) and 120 from ground to one of them and nothing to the other. Web says this is correct.
What else can I look for. FYI, by 50 amp male plug has pulled out of the connector on the end, but is still connected and worked all last year. I have a replacement head, but haven't tried it. Could this be a problem?

Sounds like the 30 amp cord is ok. Neutral and ground are normally bonded at the main distribution panel, so you should measure no voltage between those pins. You should measure a nominal 120 vac from the hot pin to the neutral pin. And a nominal 120 vac from the hot pin to the ground pin. Seems that is what you have.
So I would carefully check all wire connections in the 50 amp cord, particularly at the connector that is loose. And in your 50/30 adapter.

If your plug connection to the cable has pulled apart, it is also possible that you have had damage to the wire inside the cable, and possibly have a number of strands of the wire broken in either the neutral or one or both of the hot legs. This would cause a loss of voltage stability, and if the ground wire is broken, that would be your open ground problem. The plug should be replaced as soon as possible, before you can diagnose any other voltage problem.

Thanks for advice. Strange how the open ground showed up and later disappearred without touching the plug end, but I think that must be the problem. I guess I will fix it tomorrow and hope.

You should also check all the plugs in the house for a loose wire. I had the same problem and found one of the neutral wire loose on one of the plugs that is in line with the one the coach was plugged into.
