Goodby Texas, Hello Montana

Our 9-month stint as park hosts at the Matagorda Bay Nature Center RV Park has ended, and we'll be pulling out of here on Monday, April 1, and heading back to Dillon, Montana. We don't have to be there until April 26th (granddaughter's dance recital), so we hope to take a bit of a detour on our way, heading toward New Mexico and Arizona perhaps. If we don't go that way, we'll probably head toward Austin and the Texas Hill Country and stay there for a while before going back to the snow and ice.

What an experience we've had down here! If nothing else, we've seen and heard things that we never dreamed possible in a civilized country. When I retired from teaching high school in May of 2012, I'd already had a few years of dealing with the "entitled generation." Here in the park, we dealt with many members of the entitled generation and their equally entitled parents. The majority of our experiences were terrific, but we've also seen the underbelly of society in some cases. As I've said for the past few months, there's a book in there somewhere!

Below are two of the greatest works of fiction known to man . . .

I would like an autographed first edition. I long for another visit to Montana, also. Have fun!

You did mean not to park on the grass just in that spot right...it doesn't apply to 'grass' in general does it? You really should be more specific! Geez!

As for the 'one way' that doesn't apply to us because we know how to drive our rig and we can get a better angle on that spot from the other direction! 10mph is ONLY for when you are backing in, right?!

Wow... We've been through Dillon, MT. Getting there via I-15 was quite a climb in Idaho.

There are all kinds out there. Enjoy your next adventure.

You've been peeking at my notes! Those very reasons for not following the rules have been given to us more than once.

Austin has to be the home of the most and the best when it comes to restaurants, taco wagons, and any other kind of food venue you can think of! We lived there for a long, long time and still miss the good food and the live music scene.

Where are you?
We are in New Braunfels but depart tomorrow 4/3/13.

Going to San Antonio for 10 days.

Earlene had physical therapy 3 times a week while you were Wintering in Texas and we never made it to Matagorda. Next time.

We're in Austin for a few days visiting friends and family here. We arrived just in time for all the storms in the area. Bummer.

Have a safe trip and be careful. It's still snowing up there from time to time.

Carolyn,

Austin is a great area.

I'm sure in your experiences you have either discovered or have been reinforced that signs and rules only apply to others.

We love Austin. It was home for many years before we moved to Montana. Today, we've been hitting our favorite places here, including lunch at Shady Grove on Barton Springs.

Yep, apparently in some RV parks, the rules are made for others. I was told that many of the campers in the park where we hosted were used to the place being a wide-open, no-holds barred, first-come, first-served type of place where anything and everything could and did happen with no consequence (before the LCRA took over the park). That may be, but when the campers are now handed a short list of park rules and STILL choose to ignore them, it's clear that we're still dealing with the "me" generation, as in "me, me, me--I'm entitled!"

We'll be heading through the Hill Country on Sunday. We are going back to finish our work and then we head to Colorado on April 26th. Have safe travels.
