Dave,
I am going to have my dealership take care of this for me. They are going to have one custom made to fit the rear window and they claim should be able to install that along with my side windows in approx. 6 hours. Sounds good to me. I bring the coach home for winter the end of Sept. They are going to measure and order them for me then, will let you know as far as cost goes.

I recently added a Coleman mach 3 ps /with heat strip to my 3255rl monty and have had no problems with height (i drove a cross country 13'6" box for a number of years) and it replaced a durotherm unit(long story about a camping world mess-up) the coleman is a much better unit and shure wouldnt go back. You are sure right about the amps. The one town we truckers were all worried about was Chicago as some of the overpasses were marked 13'9' and were only 12'9" or so because of added road material and the signs not changed. As for the additional height you will get used to it and find it is no problem.

Thanks everyone, this was a timely topic. In addition to a splendide 2100 W/D being installed at CW today we are also having the dome sat dish installed. The tech said he thought it would add about 6 inches to our 12' 9" 3400RL.
I guess this confirms that, and, that we don't need to be overly worried about overpasses.

Just curious, jpf... why are you going with the dome sat dish instead of a portable tripod? I understand that it WAY more convenient IF you stay away from trees. That would seem to be a problem in most of the campgrounds that I have been in. And also, how big are those dishes? Can you get both satellites that everyone talks about? One last question... would you share the cost of the dome sat?
Thanks,
Dave

The KVH or Kingdome is the way to go in my opinion. This will be another option added to the coach in the future. I am going with the fully automated one, just makes life easier. Since the coach is mainly at the lake all summer and the tree next to me is not in the direction of the sats I am ok. Prices range from $1,500 - $3,000 installed depending on which model and who does your install.

I take it, Dave, that it will pick up both the 110 and the 119 satellites everyone worries about? Sounds like something I would want. Cheryl just just wouldn't be happy without HGTV (I kind of like it too, though).

I went with a king dome semi-automatic for about $895.00 + install. It does the job for me and once i got used to it it is easy to work. If i change satelites i can press a button and change.

dsprik,
We opted for the Movin View Sat System from CW ($999.00 plus $256. install) simply for the convenience, we are going out fulltime September 15th. It has GPS one button automatic signal acquisition. We haven't RV'd a lot, bought the 3400 in May, but don't see ourselves boondocking. The parks we will likely frequent probably won't be ones where trees overhead will be an issue (we hope). We will carry the tripod and house dish as a backup.
The roof system is 15" high and 32" in diameter, should put us at about 13' 4" height.
I'll know more about the capabilities later. Leaving in about an hour to pick up the 5er.

Would you have to have a second dish if you wanted sat internet? Or will this setup accommodate (spell checked) internet also?

dsprik,
I called Direct after I saw their advetising on the channels ( we just had the direct installed at the apt. to get dialed in) they said we would need a separate dish for the internet connect and it is a much larger dish.
We'll opt for WIFI for now, or wherever we can connect, but it would have been nice. Their internet was $100.00 per month plus an install fee.
Possibly as Technology evolves they will provide both on the TV dish. They do on the Internet dish so we know it's possible.

Thanks for the info, Jerry. I guess one could an internet search and see about a combo dome unit, but I'm sure that the dealerships would know about them.
