(update) 12 WKS in a brace and lots of opioids

Monday I get to start the camping season in Wausau hospital. Finally getting the neck fusion that my neurologist has been ragging on me for 16 yrs to get. C-4 thru C-7 from the back. 6 to 12 wks in a neck brace as spring and summer slide into the north woods. Hopefully I can get out of the brace earlier but I doubt that Betsy will go for that. I guess my new batteries and the spring cleaning of the rig are on hold for now. I have spent the last few days dehydrating about 40 lbs of rump roast into jerky so I don't have to do it for awhile. I will keep you posted on the progress...

Update: Everything went well and I no longer have any pain in my forearms. However I have a lot of pain in the neck (obviously) and we are playing musical pain killers trying to find the right combination. Tomorrow will probably be hell if past surgeries are any indication. The two days after surgery seem to always be the worst. Hopefully things will start to improve by Thursday. Thank you all for your posts, they really help. Hope to see you all at the fall rally..

Good luck with the surgery and recovery. DW had C3-C6 from the front last August but was only in the neck brace for 6 weeks. Recovery went well and she was quickly much better than before the surgery. I am sure yours will be also.

Praying for a successful surgery and a good recovery. I will not say a quick recovery because you need to take the time to heal properly.

Be praying for a speedy recovery. It's that time of year. I'm going for a replacement knee on May 9th.

Best wishes for a speedy and relatively painless recovery. When you are feeling better I want to find about how to turn those rump roasts into jerky.. Prayers sent for both of you.

A real speedy recovery will happen if you send that jerky out to moc members... Batteries, think that is going on the back burner. John

Good luck on the surgery and hope your recovery is a speedy one! Don't do like you did with the knee replacement and try doing stuff you're not suppose to do while in the recovery process. At least you aren't flat on your back like I was for 12 weeks with my back surgery. Keep us informed!

Hope all goes well for you. Be careful of the opioids as they can be addictive.

Dave, we will be praying for a successful surgery and speedy recovery. Linda just had a knee replacement 7 months ago. Don't get discouraged and make sure you listen to Betsy.

Best wishes for a successful surgery and speedy recovery. Pete had his second cervical fusion performed last spring. C3-C6. He had C6-C7 fused 15 years ago. The recovery from the cervical surgery is much easier than lumbar...Pete has had 3 surgeries on the lumbar spine.

Best advice we can give is to follow doctors orders, rest and stay down for the first few days after surgery. Yes, do be careful re the pain meds, but short term, take the meds, you won't heal as well if you are in pain.

The worst is behind you. Every day now you will be getting better. You won't notice it until you are able to look back in a few months. Good luck.
