help me with a decision

After my insurance company spending so much money to repare our Montana, I have decided to look into the Trail Air pin box, when on the way home on our last trip I glanced in the rear view mirror and could see the top edge of the tail gate going up and down with every bump in the road, I can emagin what all that shock is doing to our Monty, after seeing the add for the Trail Air pin box this looks like what I need to prevent further damage to our Monty. I'm looking for coments from owners of this type pin box and how they liked or disliked it.
I called lippert and it seems they make this pin box they told me to take two pictures of the one I have now so the can sell me the right Trail Air pin box, a side fiew and a head on look. I'll be doing that while I wait for some replies on the pros and cons.

Thanks for your help.

I have the 5th Airborne pin box. Similar to the Trailair in that both have an air bag to cushion the trailer. I think it is well worth the money. I can look in the rear view mirror and see the trailer moving up and down somewhat independent of the truck, obviously reducing some the shock that would have been transmitted to the trailer.
Makes the truck ride better also.

TT2, I understand that is a good hitch. We had the Trailer Saver air hitch and it really helped, however you are only protecting the front of the trailer. Imagine what you could protect with a MorRyde Independent Suspension for the remainder of the trailer. Just a thought.

Have also heard good things about this pin box. When we were looking at another higher-end fifth wheel, this is the one they had as the available pin box and it is a good brand of trailer.

Don,

I have the TrailAir pin box you are talking about. It is a model L05. I will NOT have another 5th wheel without this pin box. In fact, next time you are in a dealers lot, you might notice that some higher end new units will have these already installed right from the factory. That is because, most manufacturers offer these as a factory installed option.

You might want to do some further investigating but, if you really want to improve the ride in the seat of your truck and elliminate almost all of the fore and aft "chucking", take a look at the Tri-glide pin box. Not only does it give up and down but, side to side and back and forth.

Good luck and that will be a graet addition to your unit.

Best money I ever spent was on my TrailAir Tri Glide. When I bought mine they also needed to know the pin weight to size the bag. With my new Trail Air I did need to raise the hitch one set of holes because the new TrailAir is built longer than OME pin box. Also need to note my truck has a Lorato bed cover that takes away some of the bed opening width. Now instead of watching the tail gate move you can watch the shock move up and down with the air bag!

We have the TrailAir Tri Glide on this trailer. The last 2 Montana's we had frame flex problems. So far we have had no problems. It has really smoothed out the ride in the truck. We won't buy another trailer with out the TrailAir Tri Glide installed/

Just another take to cushioning the bumps in the road ... although the above posts are great testimonials ... after I installed a set of Firestone air bags on top of my rear axle, there's a noticable difference in the harshness of the suspension reaction. The thud of ocassionally hitting the frame snubber is all but gone. Cheaper (without the compressor option), easy to install, and something to consider.

We have the MorRyde suspension which I think is standard now on Montanas, and we have the MorRyde Kingpin as well. First time we have had, and such a system clearly makes a difference.

Gee I never thought that I would get that many good reports on the Trail Air pin box, I guess I'll have to go take the pictures for Don at Lippert and have him set me up for a model or part number.
Oh one other question and I'm not trying to get into your pockets but where would I look for the best price on this hitch? from Lippert or another vender.
Thanks again.

We have the Trail Air Tri Glide and love it.
We bought it from Lippert when we were in Goshen in Sept. 2010 for $625.

Don,
This inquiring mind would like to know if you were expecting anyone to say " hell no, I just as well shoved $1k down a sink hole". I don't believe we are wired that way. If I spend that kind of money on anything I would love it or learn to. Mike

Don - It looks like AdventureRv.com has them on sale for a pretty good price.
I bought something from them some time ago, but forgot what it was. Best I remember it was a satisfactory transaction. Otherwise I am sure I would remember.
You just need your Lippert number. Mine was on a label on the side of the pin box.
I did buy my 5th Airborne pin box from an on-line site and the whole process was great. But I don't think it was from AdventureRV.

Makes the truck ride better also.
We had a 5th Abn also, ANY air pin box will greatly improve the ride.

We have a air ride hitch. Huge difference. Highly recommend a air ride hitch or pin box.

I have the 5th airbrone pin box. Great addition to the trailer. But now I question myself as to why I didn't buy the air ride hitch instead so that any trailer I haul would be affected by that. Another words my thoughts are save cash and go with air ride hitch that should do the same thing but if you upgrade to a newer unit you don't have to buy another pin box.

Just a thought I had after buying the air pin box.

I got real lucky. I had a friend that sold his 5th wheel and bought a motorhome. He saved his Trailer Saver hitch and I bought it at an excellent price. I have a Moryde 5th wheel pin and with the built in air compressor on the Trailer Saver I have a wonderful ride when towing. I am sure the Trail Air will give you very similar results. Happy RVing.....
