Celebrations are dangerous

Sometime after I posted about our 47th wedding anniversary, I got feeling somewhat uncomfortable. My pulse seemed to be rapid and a bit irregular. I checked the blood pressure (machine also records the pulse rate) and it was all over the place and the pulse rate was from 112 up to 150 bpm. So I got up and washed the dishes. This gave me time to think. Then I turned to Dianna and told her that maybe we should go to the ER and for what reason.

The folks in ER put me into the hospital Sunday night. I was experiencing atrial fibrillation, not life threatening, but a pesky nuisance. Bottom line is that I was released this afternoon after my heartbeat returned to normal about 10:00 AM.

Since Dianna broke her foot on my 67th birthday and I get AF on our 47th anniversary, we have decided that we will not celebrate life events any longer. It is too dangerous.

Stiles, sorry to hear about your misfortune but hope they have given you meds to help. I know how scary it can be. I have the rapid heart beat thing but meds keep it in check. Be careful and follow Dr.'s orders! We want you around for a long time.
Happy trails..............................

So glad you're here and able to tell us about your unfortunate incident. As Sue said, please follow dr's orders and take care of yourself ... we all need your words of wisdom.

Hugs to you both ...

Stiles--glad to hear that the doctors have your AF under control. I got diagnosed with AF around age 50--eventually had to get a pacemaker so that the docs could give me some meds to slow the AF down, but mine was an unusual case.

Sounds like you don't need to stop celebrating all of life's milestones--just those that end in the number 7 since your problems only occurred on a 67th birthday and 47th anniversary. So go for it!!!!!!!

Stiles, we're glad your ok. My wife recently had an encounter with AF and she's been fine for quite awhile now. Hopefully it was a one time event for you. I play in a charity AF golf tournament every year so hopefully my hard earned money will help all of us who encounter this problem.

Stiles glad you are doing better and that you were wise enough to go to the ER right away. Take good care of yourself and Dianna for us.

Thank all of you for your words of encouragement. You are supposed to see the humor in it all. Maybe as funny as a heart attack, huh?

Stiles, sorry to hear you had problems but it is good you got it taken care of before anything more serious happened. I think you are right, no more celebrations for you. as long as the Branson get together isn't considered a celebration you will be fine.

It is a smart man who takes care of himself. Being a medic for over 26 years I have seen many men pass off certain things and end up in a crisis. The worst thing a man can do to his family and himself is disregard symptoms that can lead to something disastrous. We owe it to our loved ones to take care of ourselves.

My hat is off to you Stiles for knowing when to seek advice. Let this be a lesson to all of us......
