Awning insurance ?

Just picked up our 2011 Montana 3580 last week. We have the electric awning and three slide awnings (toppers).

Would the elecrtic awning and three slide awnings be covered on our regular RV insurance policy or do I need a 'rider' to cover them ?
I asked my insurance agent - she didn't know what I was talking about. She called back and said "if they came on the trailer - they are covered under the policy" I told her "they came on the trailer but only because I added them as an optional item.

Appreciate your help !

I asked my farmers agent and he said they were covered less the deductible.

The awnings are usually covered, but the deductible amount is a primary factor on whether to use the insurance in the event of damage. For instance our deductible is $1000, which I may use on the electric awning, but I probably would never use on the slide awnings. Your situation may be different however??

Even if you add something to the trailer should make no difference on coverage. How would the agent or company know what came on the rv, or a part you added to it. Just play the you know, they don"t game.

Joe,
If they are part of the original purchase price, they would be covered as part of the trailer. If they were added, I would have them 'endorsed' on to the policy. I just added solar panels to one of my clients, the increase in premium was $21.00 per year for a $1,500 increase in value...not worth messing with in my opinion.

My best advise is to check with the agent/company that has your coverage. Polices are specific contracts that vary from company to company, state to state.

PM me if I can help further.
