Generator Grille

When we ordered a generator prep for our 2003, it came with a grille piece in the front cabinet door for ventilation. I noticed the new ones that have the prep do not have the grille. Does anyone know if this is no longer required?

Hoping to install my generator in the new one myself and the grille has me mystified.

Brad, when I talked to the dealer about installing the generator, all he said about ventilation, was cutting the knockout out of the front compartment floor. The way the new generators are designed, I don't think they need ventilation from the sides, only the bottom. Also, you have to add the exaust kit below the floor.

That would be nice Lonnie. If that's the case, I'll bet my 03 didn't need the grille either, as the whole floor underneath the gen set is open and the generator is completely enclosed in its own housing.

I was hoping that I didn't need the grille, as it really advertises what's in there.

When I asked Onan about that, that was the exact reason. All ventilation is through the floor, no need for a vent grill.
