Surround speakers

Well our 3400RL overall has had no problems and everything is in working order the first week except......

The surround sound speakers were wired all wrong. I spent about a 1/2 hour unplugging them, checking for the proper hookup on the back of the receiver to the match speaker location. When I first noticed the problem was any setting A, B or A/B the speakers in the bedroom would be on. Also there was a bad scratchy sound because of this. I would recomend that if your sound system doesn't sound right check this out. The system wired right sounds fantastic and your movies will be almost as good as the theater.

Remember the.......

We had a problem with the way ours was wired also. Didn't know it until we were putting in a new sound system. Glad to hear you got it all fixed up.

Ha, glad you said that, the dealer on the walk thru said they all sound like that (meaning crap). Had to turn the volume up to 80 to get any sound. I suspected something was wrong and had told the wife that I was going to tear it out and get a new system. Maybe not now...

An aside to this thread is making sure your speakers are not out of phase. We found, by accident, a couple weekends ago my brother-in-law's stereo was wired out of phase. He has a setup for outdoor use and the speakers were placed on the ground. We noticed when standing exactly in the middle that the sound had an odd ring which kinda made your head go "ouch". Hard to explain but basically, the sound was being cancelled as one was correctly connected +/- while the other was reversed.

My unit came without the surround sound system. I want to hook up the speakers on the ceiling to my surround. Have any of you had to do this? If so how did you get the wire ran to the speakers. I don't want to have to tear the ceiling out to run wire.

Hi Illapah,

Check your remote that comes with the unit. there should be a "test" button, I think ours was inside a cover that opened on the remote. when you push the test button, there should be a fuzzy sound that plays in one speaker at a time for about a second and then moves to the next speaker to the right until it has played in each speaker, then starts all over again. You may have to have it in the surround sound mode to get all 5 speakers plus the base.

Okie Guy,
Looking at your picture, it looks like you have a stereo system in your unit under the TV.
Is there speakers for that unit already up in the ceiling ? or just the ones on each side of the stereo unit. If the wires are not already in the ceiling, I'd be running them under the trailer and up the corners to any speakers I added
