New to Forum and New to Rving

Hi My name is Jim and my wife's name is Phyllis. We are ready to purchase a new Montana. We live in California. We were quoted "their bottom price" of $68,316.00 on a 2018 3120 RL because they have it on the lot. We checked online for the same RV and found the exact same Rv except it is a 2019 3120 RL for $58,756.00 add $6,200.00 for the Legacy Package. Granted if I have it delivered, it will cost a little over $4,000.00 more. Have others found huge differences in pricing?

Thanks in advance.

Jim and Phyllis,

Welcome to the forum! This is a great place to learn and share.

$68K sounds a little high to me. You will see teaser prices on the internet. My recommendation is to shop around and don't be in a hurry. If you can get away and are already set with a truck, consider driving to pick up a rig if it is the right one at the right price. A good dealer that will stand behind you is worth a little more. I bought my rig out of town but have had no trouble getting good service locally. Others have had different results with getting service from other than their selling dealer.

When you actually buy take lots of time on the actual inspection to find any faults and make sure you understand how everything works. Many dealers will let you camp on their lot for a night or two to really wring it out before taking it home.

Read the forum and ask a lot of questions. Our 3160 is very similar to the 3120 you are looking at - we are very happy but did work through a few small issues.

AZ Traveler... I have a F250 CC LB 6.7 and was wondering how well does your truck handle your 3160RL

Final pricing varies by dealer.

Welcome to the forum! Yes, it's been my experience that prices can vary a lot from dealer to dealer. If the cheaper dealer isn't in California the difference could be what they charged to haul it over the mountains.

Welcome to the forum. On one of our Montana's I was able to save above 10K and I drove about 1500 miles and picked it up. It is just like cars sometimes they just need to move something. If I could buy a 2019 for almost 10K difference I would go pick it up. It sure want cost you 4K in fuel for what they want to delivered it.

I’m sure you looked but make sure your comparing units with all the same features.
We noticed that when shopping some would have slide toppers, queen bed etc.
Enjoy

Thank you, yes Apples to Apples indeed. $10,000.00 is a lot of money. I can pick it up round trip for less than $2,500.00, and it would become our first camping trip!

I went through the same thing with my 3160. I ended up paying a premium of about $2k for the convenience of buying close to home in CA. The cost of doing business here is passed on to consumers. I'll avoid political commentary so I'll shut shut up now.

Welcome to the forum. We picked our rig up about 80 miles from keystone factory and saved $7,000.00, if they had delivered it would had cost 2-3K more.

Thank you

I would like to thank all for their input. We purchased a 2019 3121RL with the following listed below, for an out the door total of $59,985.00 plus tax. We will be picking it up.

Solar
D/P Windows
King Bed
Gen Prep
Generator
Slide Awnings

For the same model locally, it was $68,316.00 if I buy the one in the lot. If I ordered it, it was going up by 10% due to steel and aluminum tariffs.

It would Not include the following
D/P windows
Gen Prep
Generator
Slide awnings

Dealer Referral

Hi CaliforniaJim,

Congratulations on your purchase in Indiana, that seems like a good price! What is the name of dealership you went with, I'm also in the market for pretty much the same unit / options. Did you like who you worked with, if so would you pass on their name. How was the process, any special pointers working with them for folks following in your tracks? Happy Camping!

We bought ours from Pete's RV in Indiana, very happy with them. Went to Indiana Dunes state park the day we picked it up about an hour from the them.

Thank you.

We ended up with Walnut Ridge Family RV Sales. I worked with Jesse Trennepohl JTrennepohl@walnutridgerv.com

There is no sales pressure here. Jesse (pronounced Jess) Was a newer salesman. If he did not know an answer, he looked into it.

We plan to spend the night there to work out any issues.

I should note that there was no sales pressure here in Cali either.

Someone mentioned here that I would have to pay double income tax, one for each state. Walnut Ridge has assured me that they collect sales tax and send it to California. I will have to pay the half a percent difference. Every state is different though.

Good luck with your search!

Enjoy your new rig. When and where are you getting it?

We ordered it from a dealer in Indiana. I believe they are ordering it from the factory on Monday. Approx. 8 weeks, possibly a little longer.

After CA gets done with you add about $6k and that puts you close to what the original price was. I dealt with the same issue and after adding costs to get it, I may have saved a couple grand bottom line.

Once the deal is done it is done. At that point enjoy it to the fullest and wear that sucker out!

My total cost if purchased in California including sales tax = $73,439.70

My total cost if purchased in Indiana including sales tax in both states, and including my cost to go get it = $70,882.83. Saving $2,556.87

That would also make the slide awnings, Dual pane windows, gen prep, and generator free. They must carry some value, at least they do to me.

We hope to wear that sucker out, indeed!

Thank you for your input.
