Receiver hitch with new pic

I needed a receiver hitch for my bikes so...after a trip to the iron and metal store, cutting and welding and a lot of hard work my "can do" husband made this hitch for me. I posted with too large of picture first, hope I have corrected the mistake.

What is a receiver hitch and how does it hold the bike?

Hey guys, Lynn says he is frothing at the mouth looking at your building. The hitch is nice, too (lol).
