Most likely a older law. When anything over 12k had to be commercial. Since most commercial trucks always have a trailer attached they typically only issue a front plate. The savings from only one plate add up. Just ask GM. My 2012 LTZ Silverado with almost every conceivable option does not include a glove box light. You run enough trucks down the line with out the light the savings add up!

The GVWR on our 08 F-350 Dually is 13K.The truck ready to tow weighs 9K. Put the pin weight on a 3400 on it and it would still be under 12k GVWR.
|
What you load on your truck does not change the GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT RATING.
These laws apply to the Rating
Your '08 F350 will ALWAYS have a GVWR of 13K

you were looking for a boondocking site
since your from out of state and don't have a place to stay , why not get permission from the city to stay in the city hall parking lot then.. all your whitness to your upstanding citizenship and character could join you, of course you would become the wagonmaster by default and defacto mayor of the first annual ralley in goodyear az

I know in MA, you only display a plate on the front if you are issued 2 plates. If you're only issued 1, then it must be on the back of the truck.

The state trooper I talked to at jefferson City, a supervisor told me to ask Goodyear police if they ticket every truck pulling a trailer, the 18 wheelers, because they only have a front plate. Same law..

Did you ever hear from the Chief, because I never got a reply to my letter?

Yes, he thinks the ticket is correct, (no smarter than the officer) he evaluated the officers response and since it is my word against his, he said the matter is closed.
What did we expect...

Then, damnit, go to court and prove that they are both idiots! A foreign state (Arizona) cannot enforce a domestic (Maryland) state's laws and vice versa. What this means is that the domestic state's laws trump the foreign state when the issue is an infraction like insurance or registration.

Ozz, I have no advice on this one. However, to prevent this from occurring again why don't you find a white metal license plate and get stick-on letters and make a sign: "Legal registration plate on front bumper". Then mount it on the rear so the next Barny Fife knows where to look.

I want to follow up on what I said about domestic and foreign states.
We are Nevada residents with Nevada drivers' licenses. Our vehicles and trailer are registered in Montana under an LLC. We spend the winter in Florida. We travel many of the other states in the summer, like Louisiana, Texas, New York, Indiana, you get the idea. So, who gets to enforce their laws regarding our registration and insurance requirements? If you said "Montana", then you are correct! If any other state attempts to impose their statutes regarding registration and insurance on Montana, they are ignorant, or worse, just hoping to get money from people who "just pay the fine".

Is it possible that you could get 2 plates just to avoid this happening again. What I'm asking is will they issue a second plate?

I can tell you from experience that one state can not enforce another state's registration laws. I am basing this on my 32 years in Law Enforcement, the last 22 of which were with the Illinois State Police. Now if you drive across another state without any valid registration at all, then yes, the state you are traveling through can cite that violation because they require any vehicles in their state to have registration. However, if your state only issues one plate then another state can not fine you for not having two. Just like if your state allows you to have tinted windows and you drive through a state that does not allow it, they can't cite your because you are registered in another state. I would just call the prosecutor and I am pretty sure he/she would dismiss this citation. Sounds like a bad cop writing a bad ticket to me.

The Indians said, walk a mile in my moccasins, then we will talk. or something close to that..
We are headed south to explore new territory, visit new places, slide down a giant powder white sand dune in a plastic saucer, get our pictures taken with a small costumed 'outer world' (probably the town drunk..) in Roswell, have a beer at the 'Alien Inn'. I want to put all this behind me and not dwell on negative things.
I want to visit Lonnie at his tire shop,. drink the coffe that keeps him sharp. You know, fun stuff.
The officer will still be a miserable person, with his preduduces, grinding away at his daily life in a job he probably hates. Sue and I will be giggling like school kids while we play.
You tell me, who won on that deal..
Oh, the 5th ice machine we got from Walmart... D.O.A. picked it up today. Took back the 4th from Target, got all our money back. Still smiling...
