Slides in or out for Season
SO I apologize if there is a thread on this already, I looked and didn't find one. Im new to seasonal camp site this year. I leave my unit parked on the site obviously, right now I am there every weekend. Anyone know weather its OK to leave the slides out the whole season? or Should I bring them in when I leave? Sometimes I slide them in, sometimes I leave them out. Just curious I guess. I see other units up there that have not moved them at all since the season started .

kozzy,
We leave our slides out all the time, even when parked here at home.
Once a month or so I will "exercise" the slides and landing gear, if we're not traveling.

We full time and have two home bases, so once in a while we leave them out for months at a time.

Ours are out most of the time BUT that is because we are either living in the RV or it is on our property were we can get to it if needed. If we were not close to the RV and away for extended periods we would not leave them extended. Example they are extended now but we can get to the RV and have them retracted in a couple of mins if bad weather blew up.

Like others have stated. Mine stay out all the time. Only time they are in is in travel. To me it would depend on the seasonal site. If it is wooded where falling branches could fall and damage the toppers or slide roof, I would put them in when not using it.

We seasonal along Lake Champlain. The slides go out 3rd week in May, back in for our usual trip, August- Sept. I do exercise them occasionally, The only downside is that possibly the wiper seal may go bad as one out of four on ours needed replacing this spring

There are at least a couple reasons I would pull them in when not using the unit for a time. If the slides are out, especially in a climate with any significant sunshine/UV concern both the wiper seals against the slide walls and the bulb seals behind the slide facia (outer slide trim) are exposed and can further deteriorate. Not so much when the slides are in and the facia conceals them from the sun. As well, little critters (think those tiny, slimy white tree frogs, ants and spiders places like Florida offers that can get thru seemingly anything), as well as heavy rain intrusions and other atmospheric debris that are more likely to sneak into the unit via any small gaps the seals may not fully contain. Obviously there are many other places critters can let themselves in but closing your slides while away makes for less of them.

I think I am just goiong to leave them out, and slide them in when I am not there for weeks at a time. Right now, im there every weekend.
In 2 weeks im going to another campground just for a change of scenery, for 3 days, so they will go in then.

I am also on a lot full time and visit every weekend. Previous camper I left them out. This new one I bring them in as it keeps the slide seals out of the elements (SUN) and the slide toppers are then also out of the sun. Either way your call

I'm with the in when not there crowd. I figure it's one less thing to worry about, and less UV damage to that area. Mines older and I want to make it last as long as possible because I hate change.

Agreed to closing slides to protect the seals. There is a slide seal protectant spray to put on seals. See your dealer for the product.
