Dropping the Awning Down
Greetings all,
I need to scrub the awning. Is there a way to drop the awning down so I can stand on the ground and scrub/wash the awning - or, is the only way to do it from the roof?
Need your help.
Don

If you tie the awning down you'll be able to use an extendable brush like you wash the rig with.

Do it the easy way. Coat it with bleach and water roll it back up so it can’t dry out wait about a half hour, roll it back out rinse it off.

Okay. So, no way to drop the awning. I'll try the bleach and water method next.

Awning
Don-- I use a solution of Blue Dawn, a cup of Bleach, and about two to three gallons of water. I mix it up good and put it in a garden sprayer and spray it on the awning. Then roll the awning up and let it set for about a half hour or so then unroll it, use an extendable handled soft brush and brush it down then just hose it off. This is a little more difficult on the top side but it can be done. Be sure to wear some very old clothes, an old hat and a pair of goggles to protect yourself from the bleach compound. I normally use the same solution on the roof when I get up there and wash it down but I don't let it set and scrub it with the soft bristled brush and rinse it off right away. Then make sure I rinse the side off also where the solution has run down on. Good luck and hope you get a spiffy looking awning out of your endeavors.

You can tilt it on each end at the same time and tighten the black knobs to hold it in place but this gives limited drop. Be sure to NOT try to retract the awning with it in this position.

Thanks for all the responses! Was trying to avoid getting back on the roof, but will now that I know.
Thank again.

What I do is get out my ladder and with the awning still rolled up, wash what is exposed. Then extend enough of the awning so that you reach the unwashed area. Repeat until all of the awning is clean.

One thing and only one thing I miss from our previous Jayco Premier 5th wheel was the awnings. The underside was black not white or cream like most and my new Montana. After 4-5 years it still looked fantastic, granted the underside could have very well been dirty or streaked but it never appeared so and always looked good. Possibly it could have been due to a different material, but I wouldn’t have anyway of knowing that. I just hosed the dust off occasionally and washed the topside with Dawn Blue when camping under trees and such when obvious debris was on it. In the past 10 months of using my Montana maybe 5 months of that I washed my awning 6-7 times and it’s not as good looking as my past 4-5 year old previous awning. I say this just as a suggestion for awning replacement time as I know what a pain it is to wash an awning especially so as we get older and are shoulders and arms aren’t what they used to be.
