Wintering in Florida
Considering NJ is in the single digit lows and teens for highs for the next several days, I was wondering how my MOC friends, who are wintering in Florida, are doing. Many areas of northern-to-central Florida seem to be in the 30s or lower some nights; so how is the Montana holding up in keeping you comfortable? Is anyone using personal "secrets" to maintain warmth and comfort?

Due to the fact that family issues and the little fact that we ran the opposite way of Mother Nature's early December ice storm of Texas, Arkansas and surrounding areas, we ended up in Florida this year.
We are near Tampa, 4 miles east of I 75, just south of 4, mailing address Dover, 4 miles from Lazy Days.
We have had a couple of nights that we felt that dripping the water was a good idea. Otherwise it has been fine. Winter is everywhere, we expect to have to run heaters, electric blankets and wear thermies and layers. And, we have been.
We are not complaining. Forecast for our home area is 30 to 35 below wind chill factor for tomorrow. One of the recent storms dumped 18 inches of snow in our yard. Our neighbor who NEVER shovels or plows out had to call in a professional to dig him out.
The humidity on days of more than 75 has been intense. That could be read as, Carol does not really care for the humidity, and you would be pretty much right.
Stay tuned the panhandle of Florida is expecting possible snow and up to 1/2 inch of ice in the next 24 to 48 hours. That is gonna be pretty miserable.

Our monty is sitting outside Port Charlotte towards Arcadia and while we have had a couple of mornings in the mid 30's over the last two weeks, today was almost 80 and now at 8 pm it is 68... think we can deal with the struggle of hard living. But if I could teleport monty to Puerto Rico, I would in a heartbeat and have it sitting on a beach near Cabo Rojo or North of Mayaguez near the Black Eagle...if it still exists. John

It has been a colder than normal winter here in central Florida. We are at Exit 55 off I-4 near Disneyworld. It was however 75 today and 56 forecast for tonite. The next few days are mid 70's day mid 50's night. We did have a couple of nights in the 40's and one morning last week was 38 degrees in the early AM.I noted that we used one tank of propane in 15 days with the inside temp set at 72 degrees. That is high usage. Cold does not last long here in this part of Florida and we are glad we are not in Northern, Ohio.

Hit 80 today in Wauchula, Fl. First really comfortable day since we've been down here. Having said that, everyday down here beats the alternative of a winter in Ohio.

Thanks for your responses. Unfortunately, my wife doesn't retire for 3 years but we hope to join you at that time. Enjoy the warmth and your stay.

Hi
When we get temperatures below about 32F for 4 or 5 hours I have some PVC piping that is expose about 12 feet above the ground for a run of 50 ft and it will freeze if the temperature is below 30F for several hours. We were not home the week end of 1/18. If we had been we would have opened several water faucets to keep the well water flowing so the pipes wouldn’t freeze. The people down the road reported 23F from midnight till 8 am but we didn’t get any frozen pipes.
The farmer a mile away lost his corn crop because of the freeze, the farmers in Belle Glade Florida about 40 miles south of me lost 1,000 acres of corn so the reported temperatures were fairly accurate.
There were farmers in our area that didn’t get freeze damage jut some frost.
This type of spotty temperatures is very unusual here.
We were in Tampa and the temperatures there hardly got to 32F.
This is some really strange weather.
Got up this morning and while is warm we are experiencing some more unusual weather. It is warm short sleeve T shirt temperatures but very damp.
