5th Wheel King Pin Lock
Hello All,
I just picked up a Montana High Country 375FL a few weeks ago. So far it is great. Only minor issues which I think the dealer will resolve at my 90 day service appointment. I am living in it during the week while at work in VA and spending the weekends at my house in PA. I am leaving the RV at the campground over the weekend and worried about security. Is a 5th wheel king pin lock worth it? If so, can someone recommend one? I purchased the Master lock king pin coupler lock and it did not fit. Would not slide far enough onto the king pin and I could not slide the locking pin through both holes.
Thanks,
Kevin

We use one, normally if stored, rarely in a campground. Ours is a Trimax, no issues with it.

I can't remember anyone ever posting about having, or knowing about anyone having, a 5er stolen from a campground. I use one on mine when in a storage facility. But I think I am the only one there who does. But if it gives you peace of mind, go for it. There are a number of different designs and styles. I use one like the link below.

At storage, we use one of those pincher type tire locks along with a set of locking lug nuts. If a thief wants something bad enough … he'll figure out a way, but anything that adds time to a potential theft being accomplished will help. Usually they will move on to one they can just hitch up to and drive off.

Thanks for the responses. I am not particularly worried about theft of the RV. Though I figure not a bad deterrent for $30.
I did have a 2013 Ram stolen out of my driveway about 4 years ago. A contractor stole the spare keys from my kitchen cabinet when I was having work done on the house.

We don't use one because we have a Pullrite hitch and the capture plate will tear their hitch head off on the first turn.

We are never in storage and when not on the road the Montana is here on the property. We do have a motion alarm in the RV.

Kevin,
First, welcome to the forum!
Unless you feel the campground you are using is shaky, I would not spend $ on a lock.

Thanks for the welcome AZ.
The campground certainly isn't shaky but is not gated. I understand any would be thief would have to disconnect power, water, and sewer and then retract slides. I think that is more of a deterrent than anything. Like I said earlier it is only $30 so will likely pick one up this weekend.

interesting thread. I always put on a pin lock, in storage and every campground. They are not that expensive. Always locked our travel trailer before we got the Montana too.

TT's walk - locks keep honest people honest - that being said, I want to keep someone honest - bought one that was easy to use.

We have a B&W hitch. This might be a little off topic but we lock the hitch locking arm if we are going to be on the road overnight. We had a prankster unhitch our camper and pull the emergency break away switch while we slept.

A lock will at least be a deterrent to some degree. Maybe enough to cause them to go to another unit.
If nothing else, hang a sign on it saying "Warranty work not completed yet"

That is hardly a prank. They will also turn the puck handles on those hitches. Mine are locked closed.

for a quick cheap insurance buy or make one.
even just a length of chain works. the weak leak is the lock. 99.9999% of all
store bought locks can be cut off in a hart beat. or picked in seconds.
but in saying this i use one on my pin.
in a oark setting slids out all hooked up and a pin lock and chain on two tires will stop 99% of crooks. but if worried inside the coach is more of a thought. how secure is your door?
